UK. The conclusion: ‘we’ll keep using deep dug casing whilst it’s available, but let’s have something in the locker for when it’s not’. Also, as a worldwide industry we need to advocate for peat to be made available for our industry into the future.
Social Events On the first evening of the Conference, the Networking Evening was held at the Roof- top at Qt, close to the harbor, with great
views. AMGA Chair Kevin Tolson welcomed delegates and thanked Event Partner Hort Innovation, Platinum Sponsor Sylvan Aus- tralia and all the other sponsors. The Sylvan Gala Dinner was a fantastic event, with the Maori Experience heralding a great evening. Our Chief, Kevin Tolson, took part in the traditional Mõteatea, welcoming ceremony, before leading the delegates into the Grand Ballroom. This was followed by the Poi and of course the Haka.
Conclusion Hort Innovation, the industry RDC and the body which administers the industry sta- tutory levy gave an update on the marke- ting and R&D projects. Then followed some excellent presentations from a myriad of R&D providers. Leah Bramich, AMGA CEO’s update on the association’s advo- cacy efforts and the breadth of levy funded projects which the AMGA have been awar- ded was notable, and Patrick McClelland & Lydia Bilton’s talked about defending industry reputation by controlling the nar- rative in case of potential (media) disaster. Following the Conference, 55 Delegates proceeded to Christchurch for a tour of Meadow Mushroom’s Composting and Growing facilities. Thanks go to Meadow’s Board, CEO Todd Grave and his team for agreeing to the visit, hosting a great tour and lunch. All up, a fantastic Conference, delegates say one of the best yet. The next will be held in Australia in October 2026. Haere rã and see you there!
