Patrick Romanens (Fine Funghi) with some ideas from the breakout/brainstorm sessions.
In the breakout sessions that followed, partici- pants discussed forward-looking marketing concepts, the future of raw materials for culti- vation, basic questions for beginners and ESSMI goals and challenges. For example, Joost Hesen spoke with exotic grower Victor Paulissen about the requirements for the substrate and the pro- ducer. Reliability and consistent yields instead of production fluctuations are a decisive factor. Variety diversity also plays a decisive role and ultimately contributes to higher turnover, with customers preferring to purchase the complete range of mushrooms from one source. Finally, flexibility in the substrate supply is also an important issue. Geert-Peter de Rijk, grower and owner of Paddestoelenrijk, agreed with his
colleague and added: “Healthy cooperation brings the entire sector further forward. I would be in favor of developing marketing structures that allow us to successfully supply bulk custo- mers. With multiple growers instead of doing it alone.”
And with that, the meeting ended.
