Fires Temporarily Ground LionC Electric Buses as HVAC Fix is Sought A fire occurring in Montreal last month prompted Quebec’s Ministry of Education to require school boards put LionC electric school bus models out of service following recent incidents involving the HVAC systems. The electric


batteries were not affected during the fires. Some LionCs returned to service days later after the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec approved Lion’s plan “for a gradual and safe return of school buses to Quebec roads.” But at least one other fire at press time occurred, prompting ongoing oncerns. Texas School District Updates Seatbelt Policy After Rollover Crash On the first day of the new school year, a Leander Independent School District school bus transporting students was involved in a rollover crash after the driver lost control. The school bus was equipped with seatbelts, per state law, but the district updated its guidance for school bus drivers to include checking seatbelt usage before starting a route. NAPT Announces Hall of Fame Inductee, Annual Awards The National Association of Pupil Transportation released its list of honorees for both its Hall of Fame and annual awards. Alexandra Robinson is this year’s inductee for the Hall of Fame. She is well known for her contributions to the industry over the past three decades. All annual award winners were chosen for exceptional service, continuing education, training and safety contributions and acts of heroism. WRI Report Predicts Over a $1B of Potential Benefits with Electric Buses New research published by the World Resources Institute and Carleton University studied the cost of using diesel school buses compared to using electric school buses to measure health and climate benefits.
