ANTHONY SHIELDS, continued

the district leadership team, and was recently awarded the coveted, Hays CISD Ambassador of the Year for his ability to think outside the box, get things done, and his willingness to serve the students, and his staff whenever needed,” Bonilla said. In addition, Shields was also named the Texas Asso-

ciation for Pupil Transportation’s Supervisor of the Year. “Winning both awards were huge honors for me,” Shields said. “The Hays CISD Ambassador of the Year award is one of the biggest recognition awards in our district. This award is special to me because it comes from fellow co-workers in the district.” Over 1,300 Hays CISD employees were nominated and

Shields was on of the 27 chosen as an ambassador. “That was an awesome feeling,” he added. So, too, was winning the TAPT supervisor award.

Calling it a “huge honor,” Shields relayed that individu- als are nominated by their peers, in his case by one of

his team members. “It was special to see and hear what made them think I

was deserving of the award,” he commented. Bonilla noted that Shields leads by example and is

one of the first people to show up for work and one of the last people to leave. He has been involved with state and regional pupil transportation organizations, serving as president of the Central Texas Association for Pupil Transportation amid COVID-19. During this time, his chapter was the first in the state to organize a virtual meeting platform to keep in constant communication with its members. “Although pupil transportation doesn’t always seem to

get recognized for the miracles we make happen daily, it is important for us to continue to celebrate success and collaborate with each other to ensure we are doing what’s best for the students,” Shields concluded. ●
