3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Frisco 3 ¢Educating Team Members in What You Need to Know: Developing the Individualized Transportation Plan Operations & Safety Presenter: Susan Shutrump Are you frustrated with the lack of commitment from some IEP team members in relaying important information to contribute to transportation planning? Could it be that they truly don’t know what information you need and its relevance to a safe ride? Come to this session to review a new resource to educate and guide multi-disciplinary teams in what information is vital and why.

3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. | Frisco 1 ¢Good News, Bad News, Old News, New News: Where We Stand on Confidentiality Law & Policy Facilitator: Peggy Burns Panelists: Laura Blankenship & Amy Tiedens Despite what you may be told, school bus drivers have a right to know certain details about the students in their care, when the information is critical to providing a safe onboard environment for all. This legal discussion centers on the aspects of student riders that should be shared with transportation and how the interpretation of a “need- to-know basis” has changed.

9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. | Frisco 2 ¢Top 10 Hits in Special Education Transportation General Session Presenter: Dianna Bowen Medically fragile students, service animals, mental health, technology, and increased parent demands, are just a few of the most enlightening developments in recent special education law. every special education provider needs to know, with a focus on transportation. Dianna will break down the latest changes and challenges in special education law. She will provide lessons learned, as well as best practice tips you can use to steer your schools in the right direction—away from the courtroom.

10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Frisco 2 ¢When Drivers & Attendants Go Rogue: Ensuring Compliance with Training & Policies Operations & Safety Facilitator: Peggy Burns Panelists: Fred Doelker & Cathy Staggs Let’s consider preparing some defenses for when seemingly good team members decide to act (or overreact) entirely on their own and ignore the training you’ve carefully provided them. Think hard braking to teach kids to sit down, an off-route drive down a bumpy road at high speed, or duct tape to reinforce the restraining power of safety vests. This session will discuss strategies for up-front screening, defining and communicating reasonable expectations and then helping employees cope with frustrating issues that are not within their control.

10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Frisco 3 ¢Employment Law Highlights for Special Needs Transporters Law & Policy Presenter: Peter Thompson This presentation will cover common challenges employers face across many areas. Topics include best practices for social media policies, data privacy and security, and avoiding discrimination and retaliation claims. Questions are encouraged, so come ready to ask about anything and everything that keeps even the best leaders up at night as they worry about their employees.

10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Frisco 1 ¢Transportation Supports: Collaboration with Student Therapists Leadership & Collaboration Facilitator: Susan Shutrump Panelists: Laura Blankenship, Terri Drca, Kenny Mulder & Katie Stollings Do you know your school therapists, or better yet, what they can do for you? Occupational, physical and speech therapists all play a role in the safe transportation of students with special needs. Come hear how to get them involved and what they bring to the transportation team. The goal of the session is to review the role of each discipline and what they can contribute when developing the transportation plan. What strategy does each member need to get them onboard and integrate services as a team?
