Question of the Month The following responses are from this month’s trends survey (see

more on pages 16 and 17). We asked readers what their biggest concern is about using rideshare services for student transportation.

The lack of special ed training for drivers of ride share vehicles. —Neal Abramson, Director of Transportation Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District in S. California

Quality, safe drivers and use of vehicles other than the school bus. —Rick Grishman, Executive Director of Transportation Cobb County Schools in Marietta, Georgia

The driver training and student behavior problems. —Terry Ruddick, Director of Transportation Weld County School District RE-5J in Milliken, Colorado

Accountability, cost per pupil, dependability. —Paul Potts, Transportation Director Gilbert Public Schools in Arizona

Editor’s Note: A Video Spotlight posted in April reviews school bus tracking apps and GPS tracking. See: stnoline.com/go/apps.

Well, we are experimenting with something similar. I happen to be the test bus and my elementary students have key fobs. They are to scan on and off the bus. It’s been several months now, and it’s so messed up. —Jenise Thompson / Facebook

This would be great, so dispatch stops asking where we are and how long until we get there. —Stephanie Muner Hayward / Facebook

The oldest licensed school bus driver in California turned 90 in March. His love of his job keeps him young at heart and in the driver’s seat. Read the full article at stnonline.com/ go/55. Learn about the different technology advance- ments that he has seen over the past 70 years.

Praise God for him. I’m just 55 years old and thinking about retiring, already.

—Becky C. Brickhouse/ Facebook

[With] all respect to Phil—but as age advances, it’s all too easy for medical conditions to creep up unnoticed, which can impair the ability to drive safely. School boards need to be alert to that. A lot can change in five years between license renewals. In the UK, li- censes are only renewed for three years (with a full medical) after 70. But even then, it’s all too easy for employers to miss import- ant signs—sometimes with disastrous consequences. —John Hodgkins / Facebook
