Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Earlier this year we were extremely proud to announce the launch of the ‘RYA Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy 2021 - 2030: Charting an Equal, Diverse and Inclusive Course for the Future of Boating.’

Developed with the guidance of a steering group and input from an Ethnicity in Boating Forum, the Strategy cements our commitment to developing a boating culture that celebrates diversity and is free from discrimination and prejudice.

Our approach to this strategy has been to ensure equality, diversity, and inclusion underpin all areas of the RYA’s work. Areas we recognise that need to be improved include ethnicity, gender and LGBTQ+ and these will be our initial areas of focus.

It will examine how we create an organisation that truly refl ects the diverse society in which we operate, to ensure all forms of recreational boating are inclusive, accessible and attractive to all.

We will use our infl uence to inspire and make an impact to break down institutional barriers and support the delivery of the RYA Strategic Plan. We aim to change perceptions, behaviours and experiences in order to change the reality within our communities.

We aim to change perceptions, behaviours and experiences in order to change the reality within our communities

Its success will require all departments across the Association to engage, own and deliver specifi c actions. We will work with stakeholders and partners to benchmark progress, share best practice and adopt a sport-wide Diversity Support Network to further drive the agenda forward.
