Looking To The Future
The next 12 months are important and exciting ones, as we focus our efforts on the recovery of our sport and continue to support members and clubs as we navigate the new normal. There are many reasons to feel optimistic about the year ahead: we have a strong fi nancial position, a clear Transitional Plan, and the opportunity to make a tangible difference with our new, more focused Sustainability and Diversity strategies.
We will continue to demonstrate our resilience and our values of being inclusive, taking personal responsibility, striving to attain the highest possible standards and recognising that views will always be polarised, so we need to be balanced and transparent in our actions.
Our Discover and Rediscover Sailing campaigns are helping clubs and centres re-engage with their members and encourage the return of those who took to the water for the fi rst time in 2020. With the staycation trend likely to have an impact on sporting participation in the year ahead, our affi liated clubs and recognised training centres will be offering opportunities for water-lovers of all ages and abilities to get afl oat. With your support, we can strive to encourage many more youngsters to escape from modern-day life, switch off their screens and get active outdoors.
It is an important year for the British Sailing Team as they fl y the fl ag for Great Britain at regattas all over the world. As we go to print, Team GB currently tops the all-time Olympic sailing medal table – and our goal is to continue this success at Tokyo 2020 and then Paris 2024.
The global pandemic has accelerated trends in how we behave, how our members access the services and experiences we provide, and how we communicate. As we spend more and more
time connected to our digital devices, our ‘online experience’ becomes ever more infl uential. The next phases of our fi ve-year digital roadmap will see us offer a more tailored approach, with relevant content for users and an enhanced application process for membership and ICCs. We will continue to focus on ensuring that boaters get the best possible outcome post-Brexit.
The next 12 months will undoubtedly be challenging but exciting as we seek to chart an equal, diverse, and inclusive course for the future of boating
As we face increasing pressure from competing commercial, environmental and leisure interests, it is essential we ensure that the implications for recreational boating are fully recognised by politicians and Government offi cials.
The next 12 months will undoubtedly be challenging but exciting as we seek to chart an equal, diverse, and inclusive course for the future of boating. With the ongoing support of our staff, volunteers, stakeholders and, importantly, our members, we will ensure that our boating interests are consistently represented and widely considered. Once again, I would like to thank you for supporting so many areas of our work.
