Ontario Trail Rider Association Submission for ‘The Rider’ – July 2022 Issue
Summer is definitely here now and the weather seems to be playing in our
favour! Our second ride of the season in early June had a great turnout with mostly overnighters and several day riders who dropped in and join us for a ride here and there. It is always a pleasure to see the ‘old’ members and we also welcomed quite a few new faces - riders and horses! We had decided to hold our Annual General Meeting on the Saturday of that weekend and are very pleased to an- nounce that all past directors of the Board agreed to stay on for another term. With the ad- dition of several new mem- bers
volunteering for
positions as Directors-at- Large we are now back to 9 in total. Thank you all for your commitment on keeping the Ontario Trail Riders going! While we were at it, we
had our draw for the early bird membership drive which had been extended to Febru- ary 28 of this year. The win- ner was Janice Clegg, former OTRA Club President for many years, who will now have to decide how to spend her $200 visa gift card. Use it wisely, Janice... or just go wild! But either way, CON- GRATULATIONS! A special thank you goes also out to Gord Wiesner who, again, cut the long grass and graded some of those potholes in the road leading up to the camp area. OTRA would like to ex-
tend that thank you to both the Chesley Saddle Club and OCTRA for supporting us in maintaining this, which bene- fits not just us equestrians but ALL users of the County For- est.
Our next ride will once
again be at the Dufferin County Forest Main Tract, this time with a FULL WEEK OF RIDING AND CAMP- ING, Monday July 4th to Sunday July 10th. We again hope to see many of you out there taking advantage of the opportunity of having such a great forest to ride in with the large campground and its abundant room for many of our small and ‘little’ larger rigs. Water for the horses con- tinuous to be made available for all rides this year, as well as the porta-potty that will be staying put for the entire sea- son.
We are currently work-
ing on a possible fundraiser at the September ride, so let us know if you have any ideas. The past has seen a pig-roast, beef dinners, a poker ride, raf- fles and some fun auctions. We are flexible and open to (almost!) anything as long as it is safe and FUN (and legal!) for all participants. See you on trail ...
