6 Inspire The news magazine of Woodkirk Academy r Morley

WOODKIRK students were proud to take part in the local community Remembrance service at the Central Methodist Church, Morley. A group of Year 7 students were selected to join Sixth Form students James, Shereena and Joshua. The service included readings, bell ringing, prayers, and songs and Joshua received much praise for his moving performance of ‘The Last Post’.

Images of War Day

NOVEMBER saw the return of ‘Images of War Day’. Students participated in creative activities like exploring the poetic voices of war, debating the morality of war and using conflict-inspired art to stimulate their emotive compositions of the experience of war. We were also delighted to welcome back former student and army veteran, Simon Brown, who led our students in a moving moment of remembrance before motivating us with a message of how we can use adversity to achieve our triumphs.

Fame!

THIS year, there will be incredible singing, amazing dancing and even stylish legwarmers when Woodkirk brings Fame: The Musical to the school stage! The musical follows the final class of New York City’s illustrious High School for the Performing Arts from their first year in 1980 to their graduation in 1984. The planned performances are from Tuesday 12 March to Saturday 16 March. We can’t wait to enjoy this year’s production.

Community

IN December, students showed kindness by bringing in presents and donating money to help make Christmas special for all the children within the community. It was our pleasure to ensure that children were delighted to find some of their wish list gifts under their tree on Christmas Day. Students and their families were extremely generous in their donations, and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in this very special event.
