COVER STORY

Vision’s response to this current display style was to bring to market a versatile tile library system which enables the retailer to show vast numbers of individual tiles, available for the customer to handle. Aptly called the Cube display library, this system can display tiles of all sizes and with differing quantities to suit the available showroom space for each retailer. Dave says: “This is without doubt the most popular display system that we have designed and brought to market – a good sized tile library coupled with a customer layout table seems to work extremely well in all tile retail environments, from tile showrooms to bathroom retailers alike. Our biggest customer for these displays is the hugely- successful Easy Bathrooms & Tiles, based in Wakefield, who currently have 138 showrooms nationwide. Owner Craig Waddington saw the potential for our Cube displays in his outlets and he now incorporates a large tile studio in every branch, based entirely on our display systems. Off the back of this we are finding many more bathroom retailers are coming to us for similar display assistance, albeit that their showrooms may be much smaller, but they recognise that this is a good way of increasing their tile offering.”

Vision’s ethos for the future is to continue to refine its offering to customers on an on-going basis. “This is what we do every working day – I guess we must love what we do!”, says Dave.

“The flip side of large projects such as these is that we will also often generate just one specific display for an independent retailer who has perhaps brought in a new range of tiles that needs to be displayed in their own showroom. We are happy to tweak existing display dimensions and produce a bespoke unit that fits their needs exactly, often within a few days of the initial enquiry – we process many hundreds of small orders such as these over a year.”

As far as tile display trends go, Vision says there has been a seismic shift in tile display styles in the UK during its existence in the market. Dave says: “When we first started, the vast majority of display systems were often metal fabricated, large displays with moving parts. We used to manufacture and sell around 20 swing-door `clapper’ displays per month – now we’re lucky to sell four or five a year. We believe the average tile customer no longer needs to see large areas of grouted-in displays in order to understand what their tiled wall or floor will look like, and today’s forward-thinking tile retailers are opting for a more boutique approach where the customer can choose and handle individual tiles as part of their selection process. From a tile showrooms’ point of view this is beneficial as they can display many more products in a smaller space and can be instantly reactive when they have tile discontinuations or new product ranges available to deal with.”
