VINYL & LVT
as customers chose more modern, durable flooring types. Looking for an easy-to-care-for option suitable for the entire home, consumers were opting for carpet, linoleum or, later, laminate flooring.
As well as often being a cheaper alternative to laying parquet, carpet, linoleum and its successor, vinyl, are also very comfortable underfoot. However, until now there has not been an alternative for those looking for a unique floor, which can be laid in any multitude of options as parquet can be.
Design Alternatives
Today’s consumers are looking for all three attributes: gorgeous design options, comfort and a floor durable enough to be used in any area of the home. Thankfully, the world of flooring has evolved to meet these needs.
Lots of laminate floors are now extremely realistic, with register embossing that means the surface of the laminate has grooves that match the grain of the wood, making it even feel like wood to the touch. Carpet is an ever-popular and brilliant choice for comfort and luxury. However, although many Lifestyle Floors carpets are stain-proof and bleach-cleanable, many people would prefer a resilient floor that can be mopped down fully, especially for areas prone to spills or moisture.
This is where luxury vinyl tile (LVT) comes into its own. LVT is fully waterproof, which means it is easy to clean with a mop to produce a spotless, sanitary surface perfect for playrooms or busy hallways, as well as being a classic choice for bathrooms and kitchens. It is also warmer underfoot than its competitor, laminate, and looks just as, if not more, beautiful. It can also be register embossed.
The one unique benefit of LVT that can’t be matched by any of its competitors is the ability for it to be laid in a multitude of different ways, even more so than traditional parquet. Dryback LVT (also known as stick-down) can be laid in any pattern that parquet would traditionally be laid in – even more if you take into account tile-effect patterns, and the ability to easily resize planks.
Additionally, using Lifestyle Floors LVT Inlay Strips means you can create any design the consumer and floor layer can dream up. They can be used with tiles to replicate grout strips that will never fade or house mildew. Alternatively, they can be used to denote sections in your pattern, such as to separate a border, or to create a plank “shipdeck” style laying pattern, which would not have been possible with parquet, or indeed any other type of flooring.
In fact, we even have a point-of-sale stand dedicated to helping customers and retailers find the perfect laying pattern for their floor: our Inspiration Station. Coming with a selection of our best-selling decors cut down to scale, both planks, tiles and even a set of inlay strips, you can play around with options to find the perfect floor for the space to be filled.
Although parquet remains extremely fashionable in 2020, and many homeowners are delighted to discover it in their new home, others are faced with the decision of which brand- new floor to fit. For these consumers, other options such as LVT that offer equal flexibility in laying pattern shouldn’t be dismissed, especially as they are often more suitable for busy, modern family homes.
