2021 is (finally) here. New resolutions, new dreams, new potential, but some of the same old problems remain.


The natural environment is on a precipice. A report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that, without immediate action, climate change could be irreversible by 2030. And with 2020 seeing, amongst other things, Britain’s hottest ever summer, devastating bushfires in Australia, and 1/3 of Bangladesh submerged beneath sea level, it is easy to understand why.


Times They Are a-Changin’


As point-of-sale (POS) solutions are the final hurdle brands must overcome before a purchase is made, huge focus is placed on their aesthetics and strategic positioning in order to secure/maximise customer spending. Scant attention, however, has been paid to designing points of sale in an environmentally-sustainable manner. This, undoubtedly, would have contributed to the 37.2 million tonnes of commercial and industrial waste produced in the UK in 2018.

But times change and businesses need to keep up. The Government’s 25-year Environmental Plan, which pledges to eliminate all ‘avoidable’ plastic waste by the end of 2042, reminds us that there will be economic and political pressure on companies to alter their practices.
