CLEANING & HYGIENE

approval, so we are thorough in our process of accepting new members. We conduct compliance checks and require references. Then, the inspector visits once they pass these initial checks. A company is accepted as a member only once it has his approval.

If you want to buy from an ethical business with a respected track record in providing good quality cleaning and hygiene products, look for the CHSA logo and CHSA Accreditation Scheme mark.

Step two is knowing when and how to break the chain of infection. Experts from CHSA member, SC Johnson and the International Scientific Forum on Home Hygiene (IFH), came together and developed a white paper titled 8 Moments of Targeted Hygiene.

Infections, including COVID-19, are mostly spread by people interacting directly by touch or airborne routes, or indirectly via surfaces touched by others or infected foods and food surfaces. To break this chain, people need to introduce hygiene practices at each of the key moments.

"BUYERS AND USERS NEED TO LOOK BEHIND THE HEADLINE CLAIMS."

The eight key moments are the occasions where the risk of infection transmission is highest. They have been identified as:

1. Entry and exit from a facility or venue. 2. Using the toilet. 3. Before and after touching common surfaces. 4. Before preparing food. 5. Before eating food, especially with fingers. 6. Before and after moving from a workstation. 7. After coughing and sneezing and nose blowing. 8. After handling and disposal of refuse.

The advice is to target these eight moments by designing and equipping buildings with the right hygiene infrastructure and educating people about the importance of adopting better hygiene practice.
