BESSEGES GROUP AIMS TO RAISE £50,000 FOR CHARITY DURING LANDMARK

ANNIVERSARY In 1976, the world was a very different place. Personal computers had yet to enter everyday life, mobile phones remained largely experimental, and few could have imagined the pace of change that the following five decades would bring.

Against that backdrop, reaching a 50-year anniversary is a milestone achieved by only a small number of businesses.

On 16th September, Besseges Group celebrates 50 years to the day since its incorporation in 1976, and is marking the occasion by launching an ambitious year-long fundraising initiative: Fifty in Fifty, with the goal of raising £50,000 for charity during its 50th year.

Founded in 1976 by Pat McNair, Besseges has grown from its roots in fire sprinkler installation into a multi-disciplinary group operating across active fire protection, service and maintenance and facilities management services. Today, the business supports clients throughout the retail,

commercial and education sectors from its headquarters in Hyde, Greater Manchester.

The anniversary follows a period of exceptional growth for the business. Since the acquisition in 2022, led by CEO David Prendergast and Director Graham Norfolk, Besseges has expanded its workforce from four employees to 80, grown revenue from £2.5m to £16m last year - with the group on track to pass £20m in its 50th year - and significantly broadened its service offering.

The company also secured investment from BGF to support its continued growth ambitions and nationwide expansion plans.

Marking the milestone, Graham Norfolk, Director of Besseges, said: “Half a century in this industry is not luck. Pat Macnair built Besseges on straightforward principles, do the job properly, and everything the business has become stands on that foundation. Fifty years on, those principles still run through the company.”

Andy Prendergast, Chief Operating Officer, added: "We are proud of what we do. Fifty years of Besseges belongs to the Foundations laid by the founder Pat Macnair and to the

maximum eco

engineers and support teams who do the real work, and Fifty in Fifty is our way of putting our energy into something bigger than the business."

Looking to the future, David Prendergast, CEO of Besseges, said: “Besseges is growing faster at fifty than at any point in its history, and that is entirely down to the people in it, past and present. I have owned this business for four of those fifty years; the foundations Pat Macnair built are the ones we stand on today. Our job is the next fifty: a bigger business that still does things properly, and we look after our people”

As part of the initiative, employees will participate in a range of fundraising activities throughout the year, including sporting challenges, community events, team fundraising activities and charity-led initiatives. To maximise the impact, Besseges has committed to matching funds raised pound for pound, up to £25,000, taking the campaign to its £50,000 target.

The campaign launches in support of Breast Cancer Now, with four further charities to follow across the year. The charities supported through the campaign will be selected with direct input from employees, reinforcing the people- first culture that has underpinned the business throughout its history.

The launch of Fifty in Fifty reflects the values that have guided Besseges for half a century: delivering on commitments, building lasting relationships and creating positive outcomes for customers, colleagues and communities alike.

As the business enters its next chapter, the anniversary provides an opportunity not only to celebrate past achievements but also to invest in the communities that have supported its journey.
