Eren Stirling, Sales & Marketing Director at Corps Security, discusses his career journey, the industry's shift towards integrated security, and why the future of FM lies in balancing new technology with human judgement.

Q1

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

My first job was actually in sales – door-to-door for Anglian Home Improvements. I did well for a 16-year- old, ranking fifth in the company newsletter at one point. After a couple of years, I obtained my SIA Licence and worked as a door supervisor, while also doing groundwork for a borehole drilling company.

Q2HOW DID YOU GET MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY?

INTO THE FACILITIES

I've always been a protective person, so security felt natural to me. I started in frontline security, overseeing a team of 16 officers at VSG. In 2017, I moved into sales, and eventually joined Corps in 2019.

Q3HOW DO YOU STATUS QUO?

CHALLENGE THE

“Why change, because we've always done it this way?” That mentality never works in security. The threat landscape is constantly evolving, so our responses must be as agile. At Corps, we run quarterly reviews of client solutions at a minimum, to ensure they're still fit for purpose. That constantly challenges the status quo, and that’s the best way to

protect clients and the public. Q4

SINCE YOU STARTED IN FM WHAT HAS

BEEN THE BIGGEST CHANGE THE INDUSTRY HAS SEEN/

YOU HAVE OBSERVED? Technological advancements and the shift to integrated security are major changes for the industry. It's been talked about for years, and now, technological capabilities are finally driving it.

In my role, that means stronger connections between my team at Corps Security and our core divisions, Corps

Monitoring and Corps Intel, under one operating model. Together, we use an ‘AUDIT’ model: Assess, Understand, Deter, Identify and Treat. It lets us evaluate a client's risk, understand their specific threats, and combine our people, technology and intelligence into a bespoke and coordinated response.

Q5

WHO, IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRY,

incredibly inspiring person. Sir Alex Ferguson, because I'm a lifelong Manchester United fan and would love to hear first-hand about his sustained leadership success and winning cultures. Comedian Kevin Bridges would be there to keep everyone laughing.

DO YOU MOST ADMIRE? Q8ANY ADVICE TO SOMEONE

I most admire Richard Branson because he has always put people at the centre of business success. His belief that if you take care of your employees, they'll take care of your customers resonates strongly with me. In a service industry like security, our people are the face of the business, so creating a positive culture, empowering colleagues and investing in their development is critical to delivering exceptional client outcomes. Branson's approach proves that strong culture and strong commercial performance go hand in hand.

JUST STARTING OUT IN THE INDUSTRY?

People buy from people, so my advice is to be authentic. Get to know your clients – not just their brief, but what makes them tick. Be easy to work with, too. Clients want a path of least resistance, and they need to trust you

before anything else.

Q9WHAT DO YOU OF THE FM INDUSTRY?

THINK IS THE FUTURE

The future is about balance. New technology spots things faster and more consistently than we can, but interpreting what it sees and deciding what to do with that intelligence still needs human judgement. In security, that integrated approach really matters, because getting it wrong can put

people at risk. Q6WHAT IS YOUR

FAVOURITE FILM?? 10WHICH AREA OF FM DO YOU THINK COULD

Not a film, but Band of Brothers is my favourite series. The relationships built within Easy Company are based on trust, accountability and shared purpose. Those qualities matter just as much in business as in military operations.

Q7IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY

WITH THREE GUESTS, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?

Denzel Washington, because he's one of my favourite actors and an

BE BEST TRANSFORMED

THROUGH TECHNOLOGY? I'd point to routine, manual tasks like patrols or basic site checks.

A camera or quadruped's eye will spot a cut fence or leak more reliably than a human, comparing what it sees now to exactly how the site looked at the last inspection. Introducing these technologies frees people for more valuable, judgement-based work, encouraging their progression, like CCTV operators developing new skills so they can transition into IT teams. These advancements make it an exciting time for the sector.
