Hello and welcome to the October issue of Tomorrow’s FM.
Energy efficiency touches almost every aspect of facilities management, from the way buildings are heated and cooled to how washrooms, vehicles and wider estates are operated. This month’s Energy Management & Sustainability feature, supported by a range of experts from across the sector, explores some of the practical ways FM teams can reduce energy use and make more environmentally friendly choices whilst controlling costs.
With energy prices, environmental targets and regulatory requirements continuing to shape decision-making, effective energy management is becoming more important year-on-year. Says Paul McCaig, ESG Lead at Valpak by Reconomy, in his feature for the spotlight: “Increasingly, as we approach the UK’s target to reach net zero by 2050, and ESG (Environment, Sustainability and Governance) requirements spread to every corner of the supply chain, it is FMs who are asked to oversee the process.”

Good job then, that we have a variety of expert-driven content to help FMs make decisions for this remit. Ansell Lighting, for example, considers sustainability in relation to lighting and lighting systems, and explains why whole life performance, repairability, adaptability and circularity all form part of the decision-making process. Meanwhile, Equans suggests FMs need a new delivery model for their energy strategy. All the energy management and sustainability content starts on page 22 and it is well worth checking out.
Elsewhere, we have our annual spotlight on Winter Maintenance, with Litmus FM, OUTCO and Aspect all offering advice on how to prepare now the extremely hot and dry summer of 2026 is over. There are also fascinating contributions from an array of clients in both our Security & Cybersecurity feature and HVAC-related articles.
Enjoy the read.
