ENERGY MANAGEMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

Here for Amthal and in its role to support FMs, being accredited and complying to industry standards is arguably only a starting point for companies to succeed.

Team support is an essential component to this success. Whether this means supporting already time-, budget- and resource-stretched FMs to maintain a level of service or ensuring compliance with latest fire and building safety standards. Our team can cover all communal safety and security systems.

Decent work and economic growth The aim of this specific UN initiative is to provide “opportunities for everyone to get work that is productive and delivers a fair income, security in the workplace and social protection for families, better prospects for personal development and social integration.”

Taking just one example, Amthal has always been a big supporter of apprentices as a way to create a more open business environment. Why? Because we value the opportunity to encourage job-specific skills to achieve more of our customer demands, quickly and efficiently. And, we would encourage others in the fire and security industry to consider the same outlook.

With the UN Goal for decent work and economic growth, we have a social sustainable opportunity to attract new candidates to the scheme, to increase the diversity of the workforce to reflect the local community and make hard- to-reach groups aware of the positions available.

The opportunity for FMs also extends to sustainable lighting and creating paperless environments. Even measure and reporting on training and staff development, relating each to productivity, quality and customer experience.

Responsible consumption and

production A key environmental goal for the UN is ‘doing more and better with less,’ and also ‘decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation, increasing resource efficiency and promoting sustainable lifestyles.’

For a business to be truly sustainable, management systems and processes must be continually reviewed to

ensure their effectiveness. It is important to ensure that activities remain customer focused and that results are reviewed to confirm a complete match with expectations and specifications. That influences over car management and a shift towards electric vehicle car policies are noted.

A firm that uses this approach has to have a culture that encourages and rewards FM employees for their contribution to the process.

And there is the trust in FMs to consider the full life cycle of products installed. This is not just to analyse the impact of ‘ingredients’ used, supply chain or manufacturing alone, but also to consider the full lifecycle of our selected products from creation to end of life.

Amthal has a desire to support our FM customers on this journey, ready to engage with those who have expressed an interest in the sustainability of their supply chain. Together, we can accept and find innovative opportunities to benefit from a transition to a zero waste economy.

A sustainable journey In summary, the positive results associated with the enhanced economic, environmental and societal benefits make sustainability a sound corporate governance practice within FM that has far reaching consequences. And the companies, organisations, and governments that integrate sustainability into their values and vision will reap the benefits for years to come.

Amthal has committed to achieve targets, opportunities and benefits as set by the UN Developmental Goals. This is not only for the success of the business, but also as a priority for the empowerment of our team, where we know each member can make a difference in their own wellbeing (both physical and mental) and productivity.

To achieve the same, by being an early adopter, FMs can engage with their business, customers, partners and suppliers on these issues and generate opportunities to innovate for mutual benefit. Together, with even small changes, we can support and contribute to building a more sustainable and energy efficient future.
