ENERGY MANAGEMENT & SUSTAINABILITY CONSIDER THE BATTERY


Dr Amrit Chandan, CEO and Co-founder of Aceleron, makes the case for using batteries as a sustainable means of storing and managing energy.


Over time, we have become accustomed to using ever increasing quantities of energy - something that is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future, particularly as we continue to work towards reducing our carbon footprint, lowering emissions and ultimately achieving net zero.


As a result, we are all looking more closely at how energy can be sourced and managed more sustainably, which currently puts battery-based storage systems firmly in the spotlight.


The ability to store energy is key for multiple reasons - not least in facilitating the move towards the decarbonisation of electricity generation whilst keeping costs down and meeting sustainability goals.


Aceleron can provide a reliable, clean power source which can be monitored and controlled remotely, making it sustainable and ‘smart’.


Energy storage and renewable energy Renewable energy is an intermittent energy resource, dependent on the sun shining or a windy day so pairing it with a dependable, flexible energy storage system such as battery storage will guarantee a system that has the ability to match energy supply with energy demand 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


This flexibility is also particularly useful during peak demand hours. Regardless of what the weather is doing, stored energy can be drawn upon whilst also contributing to the efficiency and resilience of an integrated grid.


Keeping costs down When using a general - or green tariff, charging the batteries during off-peak hours (usually between 10pm and 8am) and using battery power during peak hours will reduce your electricity bills considerably.


It is also really important to consider the lifecycle of the battery you invest in as these are expensive pieces of equipment. A typical battery will need to be replaced when it no longer works as they can’t easily be serviced and this puts costs up.


Expanding operational capacity There are times when a building will need to draw a lot of power at once - for running high power machinery or recharging a fleet of electric vehicles for instance - and this can result in requiring extra grid capacity.

Using a unique compression technology, every part of an Aceleron battery can be repaired or replaced, with the replaced parts being fully recyclable - or even reusable. This means that once the initial purchase is covered, the battery storage system can be serviced and repaired on an ongoing basis, reducing long-term costs significantly.

sustainability It is no secret that we currently face a global climate emergency. Businesses are now evaluated for their Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) and the conversation about what businesses can do is only going to get louder - and rightly so.
