Hello and welcome to the October issue of Tomorrow’s FM.

Lower energy consumption and energy emissions during lockdown earlier this year reduced pollution levels and improved air quality around the country, whilst simultaneously raising awareness of the value of nature and sustainability to health and wellbeing. With the sands shifting, people are likely to demand more from organisations in terms of their environmental impact as we recover from the pandemic.

As Engie points out in its feature for this month’s ‘Energy Management & Sustainability’ many organisations have recognised this already, with more than 200 UK companies and investors calling on the Government to align COVID-19 recovery plans with the country’s target of net zero emissions by 2050. Some companies, including JLL, have set themselves a more ambitious target of only occupying assets in operation which are net zero carbon by 2030.

In this issue, we explore some of the measures FM companies are adopting to achieve these targets, whilst Inspired Energy looks at demystifying the new low carbon lingo to support organisations on their carbon reduction journey.

Elsewhere in the magazine, Gary Harrold, CEO at Swiss Post Solutions, explores the crucial role FMs have to play in championing technology and why they hold the keys to crisis-proof innovation in our Security feature, and phs Group explains why preparing for winter is more critical than ever this year.

Enjoy the issue.
