Q: What has been the hardest part

of growing the business? The need to operate and stay proactive with smart security technology is where it’s been critical for us to work closely with our partners. We have had to align with the possibilities of AI, poised to transform the way modern businesses operate. We can deliver solutions to facilities managers that allows them to monitor their sites, often multi-sites, remotely at any time and react instantly to any issue.

The industry-wide skills shortage has also been a major challenge. We have tackled it by investing heavily in apprenticeships and training. Bringing people in at the start of their careers and developing them with the support of our mature engineers, has helped us to deliver and understand changing technology.

Ultimately on reflection, sometimes you must make tough decisions, and these times remind us how building a company over 25 years comes with both highs and lows. What matters is how we learn, adapt and stay true to our values. Every challenge has shaped who we are today and reinforced our commitment to being a resilient and trusted partner for the future.

Q: Apprenticeships seem to have played a big role at Amthal. Why

are they so important to you? The founders and I all started out as apprentices, as did our Managing Director and Operations Manager. That background gives us a real appreciation for the opportunities apprenticeships provide.

They bring fresh ideas into the business, keep skills in- house, and show our commitment to developing people for long-term careers. For us, it is about nurturing talent and

giving younger generations a pathway into an industry that has real and long-term career prospects.

Q: What has kept the company culture strong as you have grown? Even as we have expanded, we have remained a family-run business. Many of our team members have been with us for years, some from their apprenticeship days. We even have different members of the same families working with us.

Our culture has always been based on trust, teamwork, and doing the right thing for customers the first time. Those values have stayed constant. What has changed is how we articulate them. We now have a clearly defined purpose, vision, and set of values that everyone understands and lives by.

Q: Looking ahead, what is next for Amthal? We will continue to invest in new technology, expand our range of life safety and security services, and ensure our people are trained to deliver to the highest standards.

We also see opportunities to broaden our expertise and strengthen our reach.

Our goals include to be the trusted partner for budget, time and resource stretched FMs and organisations seeking total protection and guaranteed compliance around building safety.
