It takes just three seconds to access a towel from a Tork PeakServe dispenser, allowing hand-drying to be carried out quickly and efficiently. The unit holds more than 2,000 towels which ensures a long-lasting supply, and the towels are given out singly to prevent the risk of cross-contamination. The dispenser also requires an exceptionally low pull force which makes it highly suitable for younger children.

Hand hygiene could quickly become compromised if the supply of soap and paper has been allowed to run out. This is likely to occur when there has been a run on the washrooms, during the morning break or lunch period, for example,

A digital system such as Tork Vision Cleaning can help here. Tork Vision Cleaning allows school cleaners to remotely check on which dispensers are running low via ‘connected’ washroom dispensers. This allows them to target washrooms when a service check is actually needed, preventing the risk of run-outs.

Pupils need to understand why hand hygiene is so important if they are to practise it regularly. We at Essity offer hand washing instruction for youngsters of nursery, primary and middle-school age.

Ella’s Hand Washing Adventure uses cartoon characters and simple messages to educate younger children about those occasions when hand washing is necessary, such as after playing outside and before eating. For middle- school children we offer student and teacher workbooks centred around a cartoon schoolchild called Max. The workbooks incorporate activity cards and hand hygiene experiments, and teachers can use them within lessons or as homework tasks.

School washrooms need to be well managed, provide pleasant surroundings and be well stocked with child- friendly soap and paper products. This will ensure that rather than being a place to avoid at all costs they will provide a welcoming environment where pupils are happy to take time out for a comfort break.
