SUMMER MAINTENANCE TOP TIPS FOR TIP TOP MAINTENANCE
As summer arrives and the temperatures heat up, it is vital to keep on top of your grounds maintenance, says Stephen Dieppe, Managing Director at phs Greenleaf. Here, he advises on how to care for your green areas during this period, to ensure your grounds maintain their beauty and functionality and stay safe to use.
Nature thrives in the warmer months and plant and lawn growth rapidly increases. However, staying on top of that to ensure your grounds stay pristine and continue to be safe to use can be a challenge.
We work with businesses right across the UK providing regular grounds maintenance services from weekly lawn mowing and plant care to one-off site clearances. Our focus is on creating that all-important curb appeal, maintaining health and safety, and creating green areas that are cost-effective and sustainable for our customers.
First impressions count It goes without saying that your grounds are the first impression that visitors will have of your business. Unkept lawns, dead flowers and overgrown weeds may not give them the warmest welcome or be the best reflection of your business and the pride you take in it.
Entrances, signage areas and walkways need to be kept tidy and neat with weekly mowing, edging and trimming.
This is also a good time of year to refresh your seasonal bedding plants to boost your curb appeal and give your premises a burst of colour fit for the summer.
Water wisely The hotter months make strategic watering even more important. Try to water lawns and plants in the early morning or in the evening to minimise evaporation and reduce your water costs. It’s a great idea to collect and reuse rainwater wherever possible.
Timed irrigation systems can also be used to ensure consistence and reduce water waste.
Weed control Weeds love the summer and can grow at astonishing rates. It’s important to keep on top of weeds and not let them take hold. Use safe weed controls methods as early as you can, especially in paved or gravelled areas. A top tip is to weed after it has rained as they will come out more easily than on a dry day.
Safety first Regular inspection of your grounds for safety hazards is vital. Overgrown branches or plant/weed trip hazards in landscaped areas can cost your business in more ways than one. Keeping on top of your ground maintenance will ensure that greenery does not encroach where it shouldn’t
