DELIVERING A SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN

Does the facilities management sector need a fully transparent sustainable supply chain, asks Lime Sustainable Supplies.

TRANSFORMING SUSTAINABILITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David aims high with renewable energy investments and machine learning analytics. Energy Assets talks to Tomorrow’s FM about the project.

When Lime Sustainable Supplies was born back in 2010, sustainability was an afterthought for most people. As a company we helped introduce several sustainable product lines and although we did have early adopters, on the whole, the importance of the message fell on deaf ears.

Times have changed, especially in the world of FM. The client, whether that is the end company direct, or one of the many ever-growing property management companies, has expectations that your ESG house is in order. In fact, some tenders now allocate up to 40% of the scoring down to ESG, this will only continue to increase over the coming years.

Speaking to leaders in our industry about how they retain and pitch for new business, the resounding feedback is that the client is taking it as read that you will have great service, support and the quality of your work will be excellent. They are looking for how you differentiate yourself, whether that’s through technology or company vision and, as equally notable, how light your tread is on the environment around you, and what data you boast to prove this.

At Lime Sustainable Supplies we have never been a trend-following company and have always enjoyed leading from the front. That is why we decided the FM

sector needed a fully transparent sustainable supply chain built on an industry-leading platform that would help our customers retain and win business and set them firmly aside from the competition.

Our innovative, award winning online sustainable supply chain allows customers to make purchasing decisions based on transparent eco information and full supply chain auditing, to remove any chance of greenwashing. We categorise products in three simple eco levels measured by leaf icons with clearly presented eco criteria with up to 15 measurements including percentage of renewable power in manufacturing, country of origin, single-use plastic content and level of aquatic toxicity.

We back this up by carrying out independent life cycle assessments and carbon footprints on our products. It is incredibly important that the independent third-party body was neutral and not linked to manufacturers to give full peace of mind that the footprints provided were free of all bias.

We use the carbon footprint of each product to compare to an industry-standard product so we can show Scope 4 carbon reduction savings. For full transparency our system allows all data to be seen on the product page for
