WINTER SAFETY WARNING AS TOO MANY EMPLOYEES BRING OWN CLOTHES TO WORK
Too many employees are using their own clothing to ‘layer up’ at work to stay warm in the winter causing serious safety concerns, says phs Besafe.
phs Besafe, a UK supplier of specialist PPE workwear and laundry solutions, is advising businesses to ensure their employees have the right workwear this winter to avoid breaching health and safety regulations and putting their workforce at risk.
“What we are seeing is a rise in the number of employees who feel the need to bring their own clothes to work in order to stay warm during the colder months, even in roles where safety is paramount like manufacturing or transport,” said Rob Piazza, Sales Director at phs Besafe.
“Not only does this risk the safety of the employee, who won’t benefit from the protection and safety features of the garment provided for them, it can also put their family at risk. Contamination from clothes worn in commercial workplaces can easily be passed on to the family’s clothes via domestic washing machines at home.
“It is so important that businesses provide their employees with appropriate safety workwear for the time of year. It is their legal duty. The right workwear, properly maintained and laundered, provides all of the protection, warmth and comfort your employees need, whether it be from rain, cold, dark or hazardous conditions.”
phs Besafe offers a tailored workwear supply service to a wide range of industries including rail, aggregate, manufacturing and transport markets. Garments include
safety wear, high visibility wear, flame gear and foul weather gear.
Besafe offers a unique, low energy industrial washing process that hygienically and safely cleans garments using eco-friendly products, helping to prolong garments’ lives whilst retaining their crucial safety properties.
To dry garments, Besafe uses its own innovative drying system known as Drysafe. Drysafe uses infrared sensors to constantly monitor the moisture levels in the garments and the core temperature of the drum and halves the time it takes to dry garments. It ensures a constant drying temperature and an automatic stop once the garment is dry; halving the time the machine needs to run, which saves energy and prolongs the life of the garment.
