While big players like WeWork are closing workspaces, Canvas Offices is thriving. Founded in 2018 by two brothers, the company is averaging a 98.4% occupancy rate in its portfolio of buildings. Tomorrow’s FM caught up with Yaron Rosenblum, Founder, and Property Development Manager, Tsubi Choy, to ask how they've achieved some of their successes.

TC: Take a tour of any of our buildings and you will see a focus on creating spaces that are airy, and embrace colour theory, and natural light. These elements are so important because they really support the wellbeing and productivity of employees. It’s what defines our brand across our entire portfolio of buildings. In the few places without a window, we enhance the area with an unusual feature like a phone booth or a tea point where people can come together and chat about their day.

: Can you describe your overall philosophy towards interior


office design? What principles guide


your work? Yaron Rosenblum (YR): Creating a space that invokes a feeling of belonging in our clients is critical to Canvas’s business model. Guided by the principles of our ‘homeification’ philosophy, we create offices that are designed to maximise employee productivity but also offer them a place of comfort and sanctuary. I’m sure many employees will agree that there’s ‘no place like home’, and that is what we work so hard to create - a place where you can kick off your shoes in familiar, comfortable surroundings, and get things done.


Tsubi Choy (TC): To achieve this, we work hand in hand with our clients to understand everything about them and what they really need from their perfect office. Everything at Canvas is a bespoke collaboration, showcasing an eclectic mix of patterns and shapes that reflect the identity, culture and needs of the companies and employees that occupy them. The time and effort we invest in creating spaces that our clients cherish and value is well spent. They will often stay with us far beyond their initial 12-month contract, with 27 months being the average.

: How do you balance aesthetics and functionality when


designing an office space? YR: You have to find the right balance between the two, so they feed each other. Employees need to feel inspired and creative, but aesthetics alone cannot keep employees

: What role does sustainability play in your design process, and how do you incorporate eco-friendly


materials and practices? YR: It is fundamental. Canvas has become well known for its ability to renovate beautiful derelict buildings across London. This has become something of our USP. We are saving them from polluting practices like demolition and putting them back to use again as business incubators for SMEs and global unicorns. I’m a proud Londoner and love the beauty of our historic buildings. It is important to me personally that we always retain and restore the original features of our buildings where possible, no matter the cost, because we value and respect heritage, as do our clients!
