QUALITY HEALTHCARE IN THE MODERN WORLD - THERE ARE

APPS FOR THAT For nurses and healthcare workers, whether in institutions or at home, a patient’s comfort and safety are paramount considerations. Since the pandemic, healthcare staff and family members have been progressively applying and looking towards digital soſtware and related tools for chronic care management, and in the process, give better quality of care to patients.

BIOTECH Health Care Medical Group Ltd., the licensee of Wonderkin in the United Kingdom, recently launched its healthcare solutions for the elderly during its participation at the Dementia Care and Nursing Home expo at the NEC in Birmingham in September. Two of their innovations received great interest from nursing homeowners, managers and other healthcare providers.

NICE CARE APP FOR NURSING HOMES/ DAY

CARE CENTRES/ ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES This cloud-based long-term care management solution helps in giving the elderly prompt attention through on- demand change of incontinence pads. The app provides 24-hour monitoring data on incontinence and posture care and allows for timely repositioning to prevent bedsores and other issues affecting elderly patients. Wonderkin’s smart solution (pad sensor, receiver, smart pads, and an App installed on a phone or a tablet) is already used by adult day- care centres, hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living centres in several countries.

This app also digitises workflow, task and inventory management, so that paperwork is reduced. Sarah-Jane Tafalla, experienced nurse, said: “This digital aid lessens the workload of any healthcare worker by helping them to prioritise the patient’s needs, which is significant especially on days when any facility or hospital may be short of staff.”

Significant cost savings can also accrue from the low consumption of pads (three to four per day), which results in the reduction of disposable wastes that ultimately helps the environment. Patents of this product have been granted in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, China, Hongkong, Macau, USA, Singapore, and several European countries.
