TRAINING & EDUCATION | ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE EDUCATION

CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

For any business to continue to deliver top quality service, it is essential that they develop and train their workforce. Environmental Excellence Education walks us through some of the key elements that make a strong learning environment.

Development of the workforce is a fundamental aspect of any business. Lifelong learning, widening participation and succession planning are key features in supporting future success.

The funding avenues and training income streams are no longer as robust as they have been in recent years; this has resulted in an expected financial contribution from employers for most of the training provision which is available today.

This situation has been compounded by the effects of a recovering economy. The overall result has manifested itself in the demise of some qualifications and the reduced take up of many others. However, many committed employers continue to invest in their staff and in the spirit of true employer engagement, robust partnerships have been developed across the sector and the rewards for such investments are becoming apparent.

THE TRAINING ENVIRONMENT The most crucial element to ensure value for your financial investment and successful training outcomes is the suitability of the training environment. An area which has been well thought out and designed accordingly will enhance, promote and support much success. An environment which embraces new technologies, enabling learners to respond with knowledge to the emerging trends and industry impacts, and provides stimulated settings to replicate that which you may find in the industry, complimented by the use of reputable cleaning products, manual equipment

and machinery, will have a significant impact on the learners and will contribute in a meaningful way to their knowledge and educational success.

The delivery area must be large enough to accommodate novice operators training on equipment and machinery. Storage and disposal areas must embrace safety in use and care of equipment, security, environmental, decontamination and compliance aspects. Manual and electrical resources must be clean, in good working order and in line with modern thinking.

Theory should be delivered in an environment free from potential barriers to learning – room layout is crucial, it should embrace comfort and maximise visibility, while colour schemes should be vibrant, welcoming and inviting. The use of information technology must be appropriate to the type of course and/or students, and must be limited to a professional presentation, not death by power point.

In conjunction with these aspects a comprehensive library of learning materials is vital. Up to date information is crucial to keep students informed. To ensure equal opportunities are valued and embedded, pictorial and language appropriate resources should feature proudly. Students will require access to up to date COSHH assessments, risk assessments, safe systems of work, method statements and machinery operating instructions. A copy of the appeals procedure, equality and diversity, hand washing

and colour coding policies should all be visible. Other relevant policies should be held on file with easy access to the students.

In advance of a course taking place, students’ needs must be established and provided for. Each student should receive joining instructions which will set out the aims, expectations and requirements of the course, while registers must be completed as evidence of attendance. Evaluation forms are essential to enable student feedback which will prove extremely valuable at the review stage.

You only get one chance to make a first impression therefore pull out all the stops, when you get it correct first time repeat business follows. The secret of excellent results and repeat business is planning and preparation. “Failure to plan is planning to fail.”

EEE are proud to share a wonderful training facility in the heart of the Midlands with our learners. Student satisfaction is our driver for success; our success rates are well above national average and remember, your name goes a lot further than your feet.
