TUESDAY 2 NOVEMBER 2021 10:30Welcome and Opening Keynote

11:00 – 11:30 The APPG for the UK cleaning and hygiene sectors – a critical role

Jim Melvin, Chairman of The British Cleaning Council

There is little doubt that, in terms of government and professional recognition, our industry has been afforded insufficient attention. This year has changed that perception and, without doubt, the public’s view of the industry and, more importantly, the brave and outstandingly professional cleaning and hygiene operatives.

The profile of cleaning and hygiene has never been so prominent. The strategic approach undertaken in the formation and ongoing work related to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for our sector has been vital as it includes so many areas that the BCC believes are of primary importance to our industry’s future. This presentation will look at the work of the APPG and its critical role in keeping cleaning and hygiene at the top of the political agenda.

11:30 – 12:00 The critical role of the cleaning industry post-pandemic

As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, the cleaning industry needs to remain focused on the safety of the public and ensure that the emphasis and importance of frontline staff continues into the new normal. This presentation will explore how the cleaning industry as a multi-faceted sector can work in cohesion to promote the importance of the essential services that it provides to keep people safe.

10:30 – 11:00 The rise of the Co-Bots: How autonomous cleaning can support and enhance current cleaning practices

Darren Marston, Executive Chairman of ICE

The last 18 months have proven to be a pivotal point in our industry. The embracement and appetite for innovation through autonomous cleaning is like nothing we have seen before, possibly fuelled by the heightened priorities for infection control at an appropriate distance. To clean as we have always cleaned will not be good enough as the world around us changes. Facilities service providers must achieve more, both in terms of productivity and quality, without compromising financial budgets. This session will outline how autonomous cleaning can enhance cleaning practices and productivity efficiencies whilst providing dramatic return on investment results.
