flow in and out. In order to achieve maximum efficiency and to achieve smooth buffering and distribution of water supply, a 10,000L stainless steel skid mounted buffer tank was incorporated into the design, including a steam sparge and duplex pump unit.


Results are already very promising. The system meets its engineering design conditions and reclaims more than 75% of the energy present in wastewater. The clean water temperature is increased from 12 to 37°C, ideal for the wash process. In the longer term, the system will reclaim on average 660kWh, generating savings of 3000MW/year, which is equal to 300.000m³ of gas or the consumption of 200 households.


The environmental impacts are significant, with considerably less steam needed to heat the washroom equipment and the discharged wastewater is cooled well below 30°C, in line with strict European wastewater legislation.
