Making the right decisions
Sam Holden, Business Account Manager at the Professional Division of Miele, lets us know what to consider when purchasing commercial laundry equipment.
Whether you’re updating existing laundry equipment or purchasing machines to bring laundry on-premise for the first time, there are a number of key considerations you should take into account to ensure you get the best return on your investment.
Catering for laundry volume
You need to ensure that your equipment is capable of catering for the volume of laundry generated each day. This means opting for the right size of machine and taking into account factors like cycle times, and how long secondary processes such as ironing and folding take.
If you regularly have high volumes of laundry to process, opt for machines with larger drum sizes so you can tackle more laundry per cycle. Miele Professional’s new generation Benchmark series, for example, can process load capacities ranging from 12-44kg.
Meeting high cleanliness standards
Not only do you need laundry ready on time, but it needs to be cleaned to a high standard. Whether that’s preventing infection in a care or medical environment, or ensuring premium laundry results in hospitality business, you need to be able to trust your machines to deliver a high standard of clean every time.
Many commercial machines on the market offer specialist wash programmes tailored to different levels of hygiene requirements, which can give you peace of mind that your laundry is getting the treatment and clean it needs. The new Miele Benchmark machines offer a range of programmes and solutions to match the garment or item being laundered. They also feature thermal and chemo-thermal disinfection programmes to ensure hygiene compliance and prevent the spread of infection.
Making a sustainable choice
We all need to do our bit to reduce our negative impact on the environment, and choosing more sustainable laundry appliances is just one way you can make a difference. Look

for commercial machines with low consumption values to minimise energy usage and keep utility bills low, especially at a time when energy costs are soaring.
Thanks to features like the EcoSpeed drum rhythm in the new Benchmark washing machines, Miele has been able to reduce water consumption by one litre per kg, compared to the previous generation. The Performance and Performance Plus dryer range equally excels, with an upgraded AirRecycling Flex System using heat energy efficiently by redirecting air circulation back into the drum, helping to save time and energy when the machine is cold. It also features the PerfectDry system, which continuously records residual moisture levels in the load and ends the cycle when results are perfect, saving energy by preventing unnecessary over- drying. Furthermore, at the machine’s end of life it’s almost 100% recyclable.
Easy to use
To uphold cleanliness and infection control at all times, you need to be confident that all laundry staff know how to use your new laundry equipment. Look for machines with simple and intuitive operation, and ensure that your employees are given comprehensive training on the machines so they’re familiar with the different features, functions, and programmes.
The new Benchmark machines have a full colour touchscreen display, multiple language selections available through touching relevant national flags, and ‘ShowMeHow’ sequences to assist operators.
A laundry to last
Quality commercial laundry equipment can be a big investment, so it’s important that you can rely on your machines to continually deliver high standards. In keeping with Miele’s fundamental values, all washing machines are built to last for 30,000 operating hours and all dryers are tested to 40,000 cycles. Along with attractive lifetime costs you can enjoy peace of mind that your laundry will be on hand to serve your business for many years to come.
