How to maintain COVID cleaning commitments

As life returns to normality post-lockdown, Peter Buff, Managing Director at Kingdom Cleaning, shares his top tips on how to maintain our COVID cleaning commitments.

cleaning’ we saw during lockdown, but now’s certainly not the time to take a step back from robust hygiene standards.

As normality returns, we’ve put together a hygiene checklist with six key points to help eliminate COVID-19 risks in the workplace:

• Target high touch and high footfall areas

Identify which areas see the most footfall, so you can clean these on a rotating basis throughout the day. These high touch and high footfall areas typically include door handles, entrances and exits, light switches, lift buttons, and shared equipment like phones and keyboards.

• Focus on personal hygiene

After a few months of living life with no COVID-19 restrictions, things are finally starting to feel a little more normal as we slowly return to pre-pandemic ways. Businesses are seeing increasing numbers of staff coming back to offices, and the retail and hospitality sectors are enjoying the post-lockdown boom.

However, coronavirus certainly hasn’t disappeared overnight, and with more public mixing now taking place, many other bugs and viruses are back in circulation. Keeping on top of infection control through robust cleanliness standards remains crucial.

COVID cleaning

Cleaning and hygiene played a vital role throughout the pandemic, hailed as a first line of defence against COVID-19. Our cleaning operatives remained on the frontline, delivering vital hygiene services to keep buildings operational and people and places safe.

Demand for our services boomed, with deep cleans and fogging proving particularly popular with business owners, keen to remove any traces of pathogens and boost hygiene levels. For sectors that remained open for workers and the public, heightened cleaning regimes were also adopted, daily cleans extended, and touchpoint sanitisation went from daily to hourly in some environments.

The cleaning and hygiene industry was in the spotlight like never before, and people were finally understanding the value the sector brings. This focus and commitment to cleaning played a significant role in reducing the virus’ spread, but as we move forward living alongside COVID-19, we must keep up the momentum to make sure we retain the freedoms we so longingly craved.

Post-lockdown cleaning

Today, cleaning and hygiene remain an important part of public safety. People may be moving away from the ‘panic

30 | REGULAR

Another achievable way to eliminate COVID-19 risks from your workplace is to promote personal hygiene via thorough handwashing. From displaying posters throughout the workplace that promote handwashing, to providing easy access to handwashing facilities, it’s a vital step in managing infection control.

• Implement multiple hand sanitiser stations

Locate high traffic and high touch areas in the workplace and add hand sanitisers stations throughout the building, such as at the entrances, exits, communal areas, staff rooms, meeting rooms and on or near desks. A coin-sized amount of gel or foam is enough to ensure clean hands. Combine this with regular handwashing with soap and water to reduce the risk of virus and bacteria transmission.

• Add plastic screens

Protective plastic screens are the norm in many workplaces now to keep staff working at a safe distance from one another. They act as a physical barrier to enforce social distancing rules and stop airborne droplets that could contain the virus from travelling between employees.

• Create a regular cleaning schedule

A regular cleaning schedule is vital to minimising the risks of infections within the workplace. Although everything mentioned so far will help you overcome these risks, you still need a regular schedule to ensure everybody remains safe.

• Work with an experienced partner

The most effective way to eliminate COVID-19 risks from your workplace is to work with an experienced, outsourced partner. They have the experience, staff, and industry knowledge to deliver a high-quality service that ensures you and your staff feel confident that hygiene levels are as high as possible.
