Supporting the industry and celebrating talent
As the European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards return, Michelle Marshall, Editor of ECJ and founder of the awards, brings together the dedicated sponsors that make it all possible.
The European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards are now in their sixth year and as we prepare to host yet another glittering awards event in Dublin this October, we couldn’t let the big event pass by without talking about the people and companies that make it happen.
From investing in our celebratory event to supporting the finalists and wider industry, our sponsors dedicate so much time and passion into our cause – but why do they support us year after year? I recently caught up with a few of our very own sponsors to hear it from them directly.
According to Dr Henning Hayn, General Manager of our headline sponsor, Nexaro, it’s vital that the achievements of the industry receive publicity and visibility. He said: “The European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards represent important recognition of the sector’s work. At the same time, they are an additional motivation to continue their path. For the industry, the awards show the direction in which things are heading, so that other companies can learn from these best practices.”
Speaking about why Nexaro got involved, Dr Hayn continued: “Visibility is exactly what we need as a start-up, but we hope our partnership also increases in awareness of digitisation and automation in the industry – because we believe that this is the solution to the labour shortages and the pressure on margins that many companies are currently experiencing.”
Viele Grüße, Head of Marketing at Vermop, added: “The awards are an important appreciation of the cleaning industry and represent a special platform for the sector to meet and exchange ideas. As a future-oriented, innovative company for professional cleaning systems, we feel particularly connected to the awards and we also benefit greatly from the special attention of the industry.”
Ceris Burns of Ceris Burns International, sponsor of our ‘Best Initiative Raising the Profile of the Cleaning Sector’ category, commented: “As a long-standing advocate for

the cleaning and hygiene industry, and the PR agency for the sector, we feel a real synergy with the purpose of the awards. We have been a sponsor since the awards’ inception, and it is an important part of our DNA. By showing our support for the hundreds of entrants, we hope to demonstrate our commitment to the sector, and in turn, it provides us with an excellent opportunity to collaborate with key industry stakeholders.”
Neil Spencer-Cook, Chief Operating Officer at BICSc, believes that our event is key to promoting cleaning and hygiene as a respected profession. He affirmed: “Celebrating success in any industry is key and events such as these can bring a feeling of validation, as well as giving the attendees a chance to gain valuable networking with other colleagues they may not meet in the normal day-to-day environment. As with any business, increasing our brand image is always a good thing, but this is more about celebrating success in the industry and presenting the industry as a profession.”
Joanne Gilliard, CEO of Jangro, thinks awards like ours play an important role in challenging negative perceptions about our industry. She observed: “Despite the important role it plays in society, the cleaning industry is often poorly received by the general public. With so many misconceptions, all too often businesses doing brilliant and innovative things don’t get the credit they deserve. These awards really help shine a spotlight on the excellence that is going on, not only to place value on the work undertaken but also to inspire and drive future success.”
Amelia Baker, Regional Brand Activation Manager at Essity, concluded: “Without a doubt, the European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards are helping to improve standards within the industry. They prompt companies to raise their game and benchmark themselves against other players in the sector.”
