COVER STORY

A Star is born We learn more about Star Tissue’s history, from its first days to its plans for the future.

Star Tissue UK has been established since 2003, and grown year-on-year to become one of the leading independent manufacturers of hygiene paper products, with an unwavering commitment to quality. Join us as we reflect on Star Tissue’s inspiring story, highlighting its humble beginnings and explore its exciting plans for the future as we come closer to the company’s 20th anniversary.

The family-owned business embarked on its journey two decades ago, building on the 45 years of experience they had in the industry, starting off in a small unit in Blackburn and then moving in 2011 to their mega-site on Waterfall Street, which is now a state-of-the-art facility that has close to 200,000 sq ft of quality warehousing.

exceptional staff. Our production operation now has the capacity to convert 30,000 tonnes of tissue per annum, and produces over 1,000,000 quality rolls per day. Continued investment in the warehouse and logistics operation now sees Star Tissue able to hold over 5,000 pallets of finished goods in stock, and deliver up to 500 pallets across the UK and Ireland daily.

Throughout the years, we have made significant investments in increasing manufacturing capacity, reducing our emissions and implementing Industry 4.0 and IoT. Through using this valuable machine data, we are able to plan maintenance and production with minimal disruption and more efficiency.

We have incorporated cutting edge technologies into our warehouses that has made our production operations more efficient, sustainable and less laborious. Our forklift fleet is now 80% electric, bringing major benefits to our warehouse operation. Moving to electric forklifts has further reduced our carbon footprint and reduced work-based noise. We have also installed a brand-new waste extraction system to recycle waste paper straight from the production line into a recycled waste containment unit, ensuring that 100% of our waste is recycled.

Star Tissue's employees are at the forefront of our ambition to deliver the best possible quality products and service to our customers. Our transformation means increased investment in training, equipment and new processes in order to make them safer and less laborious.
