people seen by the customer as responsible for getting things back to normal and can make a big difference to the policyholder’s experience.
Since the increase in demand for BDMA accreditation recognises the value of a range of professional discipline it is important to understand in some detail what functions come under the industry’s broad umbrella.
In addition to core damage management technicians and cleaning operatives, others involved in a wide range of roles in the property claims process are acknowledged via accreditation through the BDMA. Project managers, claims handlers, building surveyors, as well as insurers and loss adjusters who work in the field, form a significant proportion of the BDMA membership and their contribution to the overall resolution of property claims will be examined.
TOMORROW’S
OPPORTUNITIES In looking to the future, on day two the event will consider what changes might occur in the next few years and whether new developments could result in a very different approach to the work we do and the expectations of others.
This will include generic advances, such as smart technology, the connected home and resilient construction, as well as the role of suppliers in identifying, developing and adopting products and equipment to meet changing demands.
The Environment Agency will offer their thoughts on climate change predictions and how this may impact on the country’s flood defences in the years ahead. Partnerships with the BRE Centre 4 Resilience and Business in the Community’s Business Emergency Resilience Group also bring new ideas to the table, some of which will be examined in detail.
Additionally, the BDMA will be launching its own Learning Management System, which will provide a valuable and adaptable online resource for its members in the future. The system will offer innovative custom built content with the flexibility to incorporate new and emerging

industry developments. During the event delegates will have the opportunity to try out the system and talk with the programme’s developers.

EXHIBITION WITH A
UNIQUE APPEAL The BDMA Conference is renowned for bringing together representatives from all corners of the industry under one roof and it is this mix of views and experience that makes the event unique. Describing the combined knowledge of everyone who attends this event, one exhibitor has said it is “potentially one of the best resources worldwide.”
The exhibition makes a massive contribution to the whole experience and ranges from temporary accommodation to chemicals, drying equipment and moisture measurement to fine art restoration, and everything in between. Any organisation associated with the wider industry wishing to raise their profile within the damage management sector can secure stand space, and it is the ideal environment for catching up with existing contacts and developing new relationships.
The success of past conferences has led to a number of new exhibitors for 2017 and we are looking forward to a rich and varied array of participants. With the conference looking to the future of our industry, the latest

technology and innovative ideas will be very much in evidence.
TIME TO SHINE The event culminates in the Awards Dinner and Presentations, hosted this year by the Rev Richard Coles. If the name is not immediately familiar, think Communards, Have I Got News for You, Saturday Live on Radio 4 or the inspiration for the BBC Two comedy ‘Rev’, to name just a few highlights in his progression from pop star to modern day vicar.
Entries for the 2017 Damage Management Awards include categories that are open to any interested organisation or individual, such as ‘Supplier of the Year’ and ‘Innovation – most likely to shape the industry of the future.’
As usual we are looking forward to submissions which showcase exceptional individuals and companies and highlight the great work that is undertaken right across the industry.
STRATFORD UPON AVON
– HERE WE COME The conference is returning to Stratford upon Avon which proved such a popular venue in 2015. With great speakers, space to expand the exhibition even further, suppliers on hand to demonstrate the very latest developments, and unlimited networking opportunities, delegates will have plenty to look forward to.
We are already excited at the prospect and the opportunity to share a great couple of days with attendees from across the country. After all it only comes round every two years, so it will be a long wait until the next one.
