Q3 Q4
Q5 Q1 Q2
What was your first job? Telesales executive at
Elsevier Advanced Technology selling engineering magazines and handbooks including World Pumps, Filtration & Separation and the Fluid Handling Handbook, to name a few.
How did you get into the cleaning industry?
Quite by chance. My background is in the pharmaceutical/life science sector, where I had been working for publishing and information companies for more than 15 years when the role at Hydro Systems presented itself. I saw the potential to drive marketing efforts forward within the organisation as an exciting challenge and grabbed the opportunity.

Which three words describe your personality?
Gregarious, determined and honest
If you could have any job, outside of the cleaning
industry, what would it be and why? I’m wondering if I should be concerned that I came up with so many different possibilities. If I were to pick one, it would be as PR/Marketing Director for a MotoGP racing team. The ideal mix of personal passion, excitement and professional interest.
How would you improve the cleaning industry?
I believe in the improved efficiency, savings and results that equipment such as ours offers. I would love to see a better dialogue between end users and manufacturers to ensure the performance and benefits of our dispensing equipment are truly maximised.
Q6 Q7
If an intern were to start tomorrow, what’s the one
piece of advice you would give them? Never assume that you know the answer, identify the expert, listen and learn.
If you won the lottery tomorrow, how would you
spend your fortune? Other than the usual and rather mundane house and car, I think it would be travel. I rather like the idea of packing up my family and travelling the world with them with no particular agenda or financial pressures.
Q8
If you could host a dinner party and invite any three
guests, dead or alive, who would
they be and why? Eddie Izzard, Terry Pratchett and Stephen Fry. Because the combination would be hilarious and interesting. Three very intelligent, original and creative people with an almost limitless knowledge. A dinner party just wouldn’t be long enough.
Q9
What, do you think, is the future of the cleaning
industry? I can only speak for the segment of the cleaning industry that Hydro Systems covers, namely the design, development and manufacture of dispensing equipment for cleaning chemicals. In this space, the future is the design of evermore innovative, reliable, precise and cost effective equipment to deliver better and safer cleaning results, whatever the environment, thereby ensuring their more widespread and regular use.
Dr Mike Kalli, Founder and Managing Director at Ideal Manufacturing Ltd, asks...
Q10
What is the most important thing you’ve
learned in life so far? To be thankful for what I have. It’s not always easy or even possible but frequently stopping and acknowledging the good things helps me to overcome the difficult or bad and stay positive.
