challenges at the festival, namely torrential rain over the weekend. But true to form, the team rose to the challenge and the site was cleaned and returned to pre-event state in the time required by the festival organisers. Other concerts that Ryans were involved in include British Summer Time in Hyde Park, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Parklife and FieldDay to name but a few.

And that’s only the start of it. Some other events that Ryans will be involved with in the UK include Latitude festival in Suffolk, Wireless festival in Finsbury Park and Calling Concert in Clapham Common. And in the middle of all those, the Ryans team have other events back in Ireland, such as the two-night, sold out Ed Sheeran concert in Croke Park, The Galway Racing Festival, Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co. Laois and the National Ploughing Championship, also in Laois.

The sheer volume of the events that Ryans cover each summer might seem overwhelming, but the company is able to manage multiple large scale events, even during the same weekend. Pat puts the company’s impressive capacity down to a growing management team that is constantly evolving and improving.

“My own experience has shown me that investing in a high performance workforce is the surest way to ensure the long-term success of the

business,” he said. “We place great importance on training new managers and helping them to attain all of the skills necessary to provide a world- class service. I want to be sure we can always meet client demands by providing the highly experienced on-site supervisors they’ve come to expect from us.”

The high standards set by Ryans staff are reflected in the company’s certification in OHSAS 18001, a widely recognised, internationally- applied health and safety standard, and in ISO 9001, which is certified in recognition of quality management systems in the service industry.

Adaptability is the name of the game when it comes to Ryans Cleaning. The company puts a special emphasis on project-forecasting, situational planning and ensuring staff are always prepared to respond quickly to changing circumstances. Pat Ryan champions a hands-on approach among his staff. “In this line of work, it’s important for managers and supervisors to really have a feel for the venue they’re working at. You won’t find them cooped up in on-site offices. They’re out in the thick of it, identifying issues and organising quick responses.”

Throughout the busy summer months, Ryans Cleaning strives to set new standards in sustainability. Indeed, Ryans has form on this front: the company became the first of its kind in Europe to achieve certification in the

highly renowned Event Sustainability Management System ISO 20121.

Developed for the London Olympics, ISO 20121 was designed to help organisations in the events industry improve the sustainability of related products and services. Ryans Cleaning also holds ISO 14001 certification in environmental management. The company’s achievements here reflect its dedication to transparent processes put in place to identify sustainability issues systematically and then quickly setting objectives for improvements. This dynamic approach ensures Ryans remains ahead of the curve in helping event organisers achieve reductions in energy consumption, increased recycling, community engagement and minimisation of environmental impact.

Ryans’ commitment to sustainability has been recognised on numerous occasions. The work done by Ryans Cleaning alongside other contractors at Croke Park to achieve sustainability objectives has been singled out for praise by the British Institute of Facilities Management. Ryans Cleaning is going from strength to strength every summer season, meeting and exceeding the highest standards required of even the most demanding high-profile events.
