VACUUMS & SWEEPERS
Sweep The Cobwebs From Your Cleaning Regime
If you haven't reviewed how and why you clean your facilities recently, chances are you're missing out – not only on appearance but time and resource savings too. Kärcher fill us in on their range of sweepers, explaining which one may be best for you.
Between 80% and 94% of dirt in your property comes in from outside. Not only will regularly sweeping the area in front of your premises cut this by two thirds, but it’s significantly cheaper to keep dirt out of a building than to clean up once it’s indoors. It’s calculated that 93 guests walking into a hotel will bring with them 1kg of dirt – at a cost of €587 per kilo to remove, and these figures are likely to be significantly higher for offices and workshops where footfall is high and regard for doormats is low.
With even a modest walk-behind sweeper being seven times faster than a broom, productivity savings through technology applications soon stack up. Beyond a business’ appearance and the impact this has upon brand image, floor sweeping serves several purposes, including helping protect and retain the value of the building’s infrastructure. Moreover sweeping plays an important part in

preventing accidents; while we often think of wet floors as a slip hazard, even seemingly innocuous dust can, once settled, greatly increase the risk of slips on hard floors.
When comparing sweeper models ‘Theoretical Area Coverage’ is a good place to start and is calculated from working width and driving speed. Actual area coverage, however, is heavily dependent upon the composition of the floor, the level of dirt and the profile of the terrain.
Today’s sweeping solutions extend from micro and compact class, to walk-behind and ride-on sweepers with a choice of battery, petrol, LPG or diesel power to cover all access and emission restrictions. With the latest sweeper technology, it’s fast and easy to clean even in places you wouldn’t traditionally expect a sweeper to thrive such as indoors, on carpet or outdoors on an incline:
Indoors Or Out Employing just a 350mm wide roller brush, Kärcher’s cordless micro sweeper, the KM 35/5 C makes day- to-day cleaning chores much easier and up to three times faster than with a dustpan and broom, with no need to bend. The compact unit is a firm favourite with restaurants, hotels and retail where its inconspicuous good looks mean it is easy to maintain appearance even amongst customers. Equally suited to caretakers, cleaning service providers and outdoor use it sweeps up to within 3mm of edges and collects loose debris such as cigarette butts, leaves, soil, small stones and pieces of broken glass.
Multitasking To get maximum use from your sweeper it’s important to look for a multitasker, many walk-behind sweepers in the Kärcher range can be fitted with anti-static carpet brushes
