COVER STORY

Welcoming a new addition to the ICE Co-Botics family

We learn more about the latest addition to the ICE Co-Botics family, and how you can meet it at The Cleaning Show 2023.

It’s fair to say that adoption of autonomous cleaning equipment has been slow over the last 10 years, with only a few suppliers in the market. However this has now dramatically picked up the pace over the last few years, with companies starting to understand the benefits that robotic cleaning can bring, and a whole host of robotics suppliers entering the market.

According to the Global B2B Floor Cleaning Robots Market Research Reports 2021, the global market is expected to grow by 16% between 2021 and 2027, and the UK market is forecast to be worth £105m by 2027.

It’s no secret that ICE has been leading the way in autonomous cleaning over the last decade, and has a wide range of robotic cleaning equipment suitable for a whole host of environments – but there’s always room for more.

As announced last year, we have a new machine joining the award-winning ICE Co-Botics family – a compact 4-in-1 machine that sweeps, vacuums, scrubs, and dries.

The Phantas is a small machine with a 33cm cleaning width that literally cleans right up to edges and corners, guaranteeing complete cleanliness. It is highly efficient and can clean effectively in tight spaces, narrow aisles and even under tables.

With a new and improved interface, the Phantas is extremely user friendly. Not only that, but the machine is also programmed to interact with humans and will wish you a “Good Morning” and alert you if you’re in its cleaning path.

Once the cleaning area is mapped, the Phantas will clean the space in the most logical and methodical way, based on the environment in that moment. It can also detect areas of extreme dirt and carry out autonomous spot cleaning. By cleaning only where needed, this dramatically improves efficiency (by up to four times) and reduces energy consumption significantly.

Due to the low profile of the machine (only 62cm), its low-level sensors and real time smart obstacle avoidance means the Phantas can sense obstacles in its way, such as trailing electric wires, and avoid them rather than passing over them.

The machine can also be remotely managed via an App, which includes remote control of the machine; activate, pause, or stop a cleaning task; or schedule the cleaning start time. Detailed reports are also available through the App for each machine that show the area cleaned, water used and remaining, and battery and consumable life remaining.

The Phantas is also supplied with a charge station that the machine will automatically return to once the battery is low.

22 | TOMORROW'S CLEANING

When considering introducing autonomous cleaning, we have found that the key to successful integration is to collaborate with the cleaning operatives onsite to ensure that the machines become part of the cleaning team and are not seen as a threat or a separate function. This requires fully involving the frontline operators so that they see the real value of the machines as collaborating with them, not replacing them.

Training is also key to successful implementation and to ensure that the cobots are used safely and efficiently. Our training and installation programme is ever-evolving with the constant feedback we are receiving both from customers and ICE staff. We currently offer a three-part training plan that covers everything from daily maintenance to mapping and safe operation.

Following this training, operators can refer to our training and support packs that are available via our App and online training videos. We also offer top-up training on request as well as ‘Train the Trainer’ sessions which will enable new staff to be educated to operate the machines both effectively and efficiently.

We would be delighted to introduce you to Phantas and the rest of the ICE Co-Botics range at The Cleaning Show in March, so please come and visit us at Stand D25.
