WOOD FLOORING READY Store the wood flooring in a controlled environment. Temperature and RH conditions should match the end-use conditions of the room where it will be installed. Stack the boards so that air circulates around them. Then allow time for the wood to acclimatise to the room conditions. The wood flooring will release or absorb moisture as needed until it reaches a point of equilibrium with the conditions in the room.

Test the MC of the wood flooring upon delivery. Then check periodically during the acclimatisation period. NWFA recommends taking 40 moisture readings for every 1000 square feet of finished flooring product. Check several boards from each carton. The wood flooring is ready to be installed once MC readings are stable and within the manufacturer’s specifications.

Readings from the Rapid RH Total Reader are automatically sent via Bluetooth to the free DataMaster L6 app.

and at least one additional test for each additional 1000 feet. These readings are recorded, along with the ambient conditions in the room. To acquire a copy of the ASTM F2170 standard, go to ASTM.org.

The Rapid RH L6 system is an accurate and effective tool specifically designed for ASTM F2170 compliance while testing concrete slab readiness and monitoring job site conditions. Testing is fast and easy with the included Rapid RH Total Reader, a touch-n-sense device that reads concrete RH and temperature within seconds after contacting a Rapid RH L6 Smart Sensor installed within the concrete slab. At the same time, the ambient sensor built into the Rapid RH Total Reader reads the RH and temperature within the room. When you combine the Rapid RH Total Reader with the free DataMaster L6 mobile app, you have a complete reading, storage, and reporting solution. Readings from the Rapid RH Total Reader are automatically sent via Bluetooth to the free DataMaster L6 app. The number of readings that can be stored is limited only by the storage capacity of your device. The DataMaster L6 app generates PDF reports you can send directly to the client from your mobile device.

Wood subfloor moisture testing: Check the flooring manufacturer’s threshold for MC for the subfloor. Also, check the allowed variance between MC of the subfloor and the wood flooring. Measure several locations in the room and average the results. In their installation guidelines for wood flooring, the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recommends a minimum of 20 moisture meter readings for every 1000 square feet. For a copy of the NWFA installation guidelines, go to NWFA.org. Pay special attention to exterior and plumbing walls. If you find high MC in an area, determine the moisture source and resolve the issue.

With the Orion 950 Smart Pinless Wood Moisture Meter with Temperature/RH, you can check the moisture levels of both wood flooring and subfloor and monitor the job site conditions.

The Orion 950 Smart Pinless Wood Moisture Meter

The Orion 950 provides accurate MC readings for nearly every species of wood in the world. Its damage-free pinless design scans inside the wood to provide instant readings and protect the beauty of the wood. Included with each Orion 950 is the exclusive On-Demand Calibrator, which allows you to calibrate the meter within about 30 seconds while still at the job site. This is true calibration, not simply a calibration reference that merely informs you of the calibration status of the meter. Because the On-Demand Calibrator is a separate device, it can be more reliable than internal calibration checks that can be subject to the same harsh conditions as the meter.

BEGIN INSTALLATION ONLY WHEN

MOISTURE CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT It can be challenging to meet the moisture conditions specified by wood flooring and adhesive manufacturers. In these cases, a technical representative for the product may be able to help you find a solution. Protect your customer and your reputation by following manufacturer recommendations.
