Our Spotlight falls on Karndean Designflooring’s brand-new contemporary concrete designs for commercial spaces.

UK luxury vinyl flooring (LVT) specialist Karndean Designflooring is adding seven new concrete-inspired designs to its popular Karndean LooseLay collection.

Enhancing its wide palette of concrete hues, the extra large (610mm x 500mm) tiles offer both sealed and polished finishes designed to accommodate large commercial areas such as modern offices, hospitality and retail spaces.

Four of the colourways – Seattle, Alaska, Utah and Vermont – take on the original design of Colorado, an existing Karndean LooseLay tile, and offer the same sealed concrete effect in four individual neutral and grey subtle shades.

Introducing a new design altogether in three varying shades, Dakota, Ontario and Quebec are originally inspired by light, natural slate. All three can make a deceptively subtle first impression with clean warm earthy tones, but each offers a clever matt finish reminiscent of natural polished concrete.

The new designs ensure interior designers, architects and contractors have access to sealed and polished concrete hues in a loose lay format, without the extended pouring and setting installation time of real concrete, or complexity of cutting large ceramic tiles. There’s also little risk of marks and cracks, a key consideration when specifying a floor in hospitality and leisure environments.

“Our designers have created an array of contemporary concrete designs capturing the natural beauty and close texture of

this ever-popular practical material,” explains Fleur Carson, commercial sales director of Karndean Designflooring.

She said: “Working closely with architects and the design community, we know concrete is continually in mind when looking to offer a modern backdrop or industrial finish in offices, bars and restaurants or public sector spaces. Therefore, it’s our responsibility to create the best arrangement of functional tones and textures, and be confident our designs will provide a neutral canvas to complement lighting, furniture and other design elements.

“There’s also no need to introduce a second material such as carpet tiles, as our wide palette enables specifiers to zone out areas and create rug effects with contrasting concrete colourways.”

With a 15-year commercial guarantee, Karndean LooseLay tiles and planks are ideal for installation over most existing hard floors with little or no need for adhesives, meaning reduced installation time and cost.

It’s recognised by the industry as the go to collection for raised access floors typically found in offices and the public sector, and offers enhanced acoustic benefits reducing noise transfer to spaces below.
