lithographic printer’s – pre-digital era, everything was done by hand.
How did you get into the industry?
My father established one of the leading surface preparation equipment manufacturers and I eventually left the print industry to work in the family business.
What has been your proudest moment?
Starting my own business Preptec Equipment Services with more than 20 years of experience from my previous roles in the industry.
If you could hire any one person to be part of your
team, who would it be and why? I would always consider anyone who is hardworking, knowledgeable and has a desire to learn to join us, or Peter Kay just to lift everyone’s spirits as needed at the moment!
Q5
What’s the best advice you could give to
someone new coming into
the industry? Be willing to discover as much as you can about the trade and equipment used, customers will always value your recommendations if you are knowledgeable, helpful and respectful.

If you weren’t in flooring, what career
would you choose? With hindsight I would have liked to follow a career in motorsport or cycling. I have had a keen interest in motorcycles since the age of 15, and now enjoy both road and MTB cycling.

at Sika asked: How can we attract the next generation to the
flooring industry? That’s a difficult question. We have recently been helping my youngest daughter with A-level choices and flooring certainly wasn’t an option. Career choices now seem to be more towards IT and less physical occupations. Flooring will always be required and I guess to recruit the next generation we need the industry to be attractive, continue to provide suitable training and ensure there is a good level of job satisfaction from working in this sector.
