EDITOR’S VOICE

Hello and welcome to the June issue of Tomorrow’s Contract Floors.

At the time of writing the country is getting ready to enter the second phase of easing lockdown restrictions. Since 10 May, when Boris Johnson changed the focus from staying at home to staying alert, England (but not Wales or Scotland) has begun to take the first tentative steps to getting back to work.

Following this, came government guidelines for companies such as flooring contractors and retailers who are unable to work from home. The Construction Leadership Council (CLC), and Construction Industry Coronavirus (CICV) Forum in Scotland have built upon these guidelines to provide more detailed site operating procedures. As well as the websites above, Build UK is well worth checking out for in-depth guidance on safe working practices, as well as legal and financial advice.

See page 5 for a report from the CICV Forum on how Scottish flooring contractors helped to complete a new £43m temporary hospital in Glasgow in just two weeks – all while maintaining the highest possible standards of safe working.

We also hear from Altro on how the company has embraced new ways of working and tailored its support to meet the ever-evolving demands of an industry needing to work smart. Meanwhile, flooring manufacturers Milliken and Forbo are helping businesses to get back to a ‘new normal’ with innovative products to facilitate social distancing and remind workers of safe working practices.
