Carpet tiles from modulyss have been used to bring a contemporary look to the 1920s listed interior of GEP’s London offices.

Using the mini-tuft minimalism of Opposite for the open-plan spaces, Oktra designer Kristy-Jay Thomsen used three colours to add visual power to the floor. She said: “The client wanted to create a bit of interest, so we decided to create a three-way grey combination from the Opposite palette. I’d seen the look in the collection’s sample book and thought it would be perfect for this project.”

Made from solution-dyed nylon for fade and stain-resistance, Opposite comes in a palette of vaporous blues, soft greys and natural shades such as brown and beige. Ideal for projects needing a simple, functional and minimalist aesthetic; the carpet tile is available in 11 colours. Set against flashes of mustard privacy seating and the minimal aesthetic of pure white workstations, it’s a look that Oktra have maximised.

For the reception, Kristy-Jay has created a striking inset with Dawn, a strikingly patterned carpet tile with a radiating biophilic design. Made with ECONYL regenerated nylon derived from fishing

SIKAFLOOR SUPPLIES LEVEL-BEST SOLUTION

Sika supplied a perfectly-level, anti-static floor system to protect highly-sensitive IT equipment on behalf of one of the world’s leading banks.

The project involved the installation of a safe and stylish surface at a new building attached to the existing premises of global bank and finance services firm.

The new construction was built to contain a host of vital computer software, requiring flooring of the utmost smoothness, strength and anti-static properties to safeguard the efficiency of the company’s hi-tech communications. Sika’s supremely- smart and reliable built-up system proved more than ideal for the task.

nets and other waste materials, Dawn celebrates the shifting and muting atmospheres of the galaxy and certainly delivers a high-impact look for the reception of GEP.

“Dawn is a nice alternative to using a rug,” continues Kristy-Jay. “With Opposite delivering the right contemporary attitude for the right price, it was possible to use the high- texture, high-impact visual look of Dawn to add wow factor to the reception.”

the substrate to prepare the ground for a 30mm layer of Sikafloor Level 30, a fast drying, cementitious screed. Sikafloor-161, a two-part epoxy primer for concrete substrates with excellent bond strength was then applied, followed by a conductive layer including a copper tape grid. The surface’s anti-static layer was provided by Sikafloor 220W, a two- component, water-based epoxy coating with high electrostatic conductivity. Sikafloor 262ASN supplied the smooth, high-gloss finish. The multi-purpose binder also offers optimum mechanical and chemical resistance, making it the ideal solution for a variety of highly- trafficked work spaces.

Barry Nicholson, director at GSS Flooring, said: “We specified Sika for this extremely high-profile project as we believed it offered the best-quality finish – we were not wrong. Not only did Sikafloor MultiDur ES-24 ECF perform as well as we expected, Sika offered invaluable technical advice throughout the programme.”

and value of the manufacturer’s product collections, as well as the quick turnaround it could offer, Kristy- Jay also found the online ‘modulyss designer’ tool valuable in working with the flooring contractors:

“I generated my Opposite layout for the workspace using the ‘modulyss designer’ tool online, printed this out and handed it to the guys onsite to help them with setting-out. It proved really useful and I’ll certainly be using it whenever I can.”
