THE RECOFLOOR

AWARDS ARE OPEN If you are in the flooring supply chain and committed to diverting waste from landfill and reducing CO2 emissions, then shout about it by entering the Recofloor Awards.

The Recofloor Awards are unique in recognising and rewarding the sustainability efforts of companies of all sizes and individuals across the vinyl flooring sector who embrace the environmental ethos of the national vinyl take-back scheme. Entering awards such as these opens up new business and contract opportunities through a responsible approach to resource recovery.

Founded by Polyflor and Altro in 2009, Recofloor accepts luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), smooth, safety and loose lay vinyl offcuts, roll ends as well as uplifted smooth and loose lay vinyl for recycling back into new Polyflor and Altro flooring products and traffic management equipment. By February 2021, the scheme is forecast to have diverted a total of 5,400 tonnes of waste vinyl flooring from landfill since its inception.

Recofloor Scheme Manager, Carla Eslava said: “The Recofloor Awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our members’ sustainable achievements and recognise how their year-round efforts in collecting the best quality material for recycling is really driving

DESIGNER CONTRACTS STEPS UP

FOR CHARITY UK flooring contractor Designer Contracts has donated more than £100,000 to Chesterfield-based Ashgate Hospice.

The company ran an online Christmas prize draw to raise funds for the hospice, and then added a £100,000 donation to the £4,865 raised from the competition. It is the second time Designer Contracts has stepped in to help Ashgate Hospice which provides care and support for families, patients and carers across North Derbyshire.

This year’s Christmas prize draw involved contributors making a donation of £3 to enter, with a chance of winning one of eight prizes, including

forward sustainability in the flooring supply chain.

“Winning a Recofloor Award is a great PR opportunity for your business. We promote the winners through social media, case studies, press releases and advertorials that showcase how their efforts are making a real difference for all the right reasons.”

Carla added: “Now in their 10th consecutive year, the Recofloor Awards

a flatscreen TV, Dyson vacuum cleaner and iPads.

Designer Contracts MD Peter Kelsey, said: “Charities had a really rough ride in 2020 and we wanted to help in any way we could. The hospice has struggled to raise funds as many of its initiatives were cancelled due to the pandemic so our own company fundraising and donations were money well spent for us.”

Barbara-Anne Walker, Chief Executive at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “Thank you to Designer Contracts and everyone who took part in their Christmas prize draw. We are thrilled and astounded by their continued generosity, particularly at a time when we are losing money due to the closure of our shops and the postponement of our fundraising events.”

“Every pound donated will help to make a difference to the lives of families across North Derbyshire who are living with the impacts of a life-limiting illness. Each year we must raise over £7m to keep delivering our crucial palliative and end-of-life care services.
