COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY

An epic transformation With a little help from Christeyns UK, a laundry in Great Yarmouth becomes EPIC.

Swiss Camplings is East Anglia’s largest independent laundry. Run by its third generation, this family firm has built longstanding relationships with customers across East and Central England.

The 30,000 sq ft laundry plant on Harfrey’s Industrial Estate in Great Yarmouth was newly designed and built in 2017, and continues to be one of the country’s most sophisticated commercial laundries, with the capacity to process up to 500,000 pieces of linen a week.

Commercial laundry specialist Christeyns UK worked with Swiss Camplings from the outset installing its innovative, groundbreaking Cool Chemistry, a patented innovation that combines equipment and chemistry to deliver improved whiteness and increased disinfection whilst washing at lower temperatures.

Innovation and sustainability are at the forefront of Swiss Camplings’ strategic policies, investing in the latest technology which allows the laundry to meet these goals whilst continuing to provide their customers with a top- quality service.

This summer the laundry has worked with Christeyns’ Technical Team to add a system called EPIC (Enzymatic Process Innovation by Christeyns), a flexible detergent system designed to reduce surfactants by 50%, supplementing them with biological enzymes.

Surfactants give a detergent its cleaning properties, but it is these components that have a negative impact on wastewater quality. The EPIC system reduces the reliance on surfactants, creating and dosing enzyme mixtures according to the stain and therefore only a low dose is required for the desired clean. These unique mixtures are dosed in the washing process separately from an adapted, enzyme compatible detergent, not as an all-in- one detergent.

Richard Turvill, Swiss Camplings Strategic Development Director, stated: “We are delighted that the EPIC system is now up and running and results are looking really good. Our aim is to decrease our environmental impact by reducing overall water usage and COD effluent levels, with an overall objective of striving for zero carbon washing by 2030.”

The EPIC box at the Camplings site in Great Yarmouth will run in conjunction with its Cool Chemistry to create a total wash concept, proven to deliver outstanding results in terms of soil removal, whiteness, bleaching and disinfection at low temperatures. Results for EPIC already show that in a standard laundry process for hotel linen, the detergent dosed per kilogram of linen is reduced by more than 50%.

The mixtures are produced on site at the customer’s premises to be dosed very precisely and safely, directly into the wash process. This is carried out by the high-tech EPIX box.

As well as improving wastewater quality and saving costs with smaller, concentrated doses, the total wash system offers outstanding disinfection properties and exceptional whiteness. The pH neutral wash process uses lower temperatures and helps prolong the life of the linen, as well as reducing overall carbon footprint.

Christeyns is passionate about all it does and is progressive in its thinking, with a continued focus on the environment and the challenges of producing innovative solutions. This keeps the company at the cutting edge of the business sectors in which it operates, and thus able to offer real improvements and value for money for its customers such as Swiss Camplings.
