The Loo of the Year Awards is the premier independent benchmark for excellence in ‘away from home’ washrooms in the UK and Ireland. Established in 1987, the awards are now run by Becky Wall BEM and husband Charles Wall, and are backed by a mission to consistently improve hygiene standards.

The Loo of the Year Awards is the premier benchmark for excellence in ‘away from home’ washroom provision across the UK and Ireland, and it’s a quality mark which is growing in influence.

Established in 1987, the awards are designed to drive up standards in inclusive hygiene, accessibility and FM across a wide range of sectors – from local authorities and leisure venues to commercial premises, hospitality, retail and transport.

The awards were taken on in 2021 by the founders of A Plush Flush, Becky Wall BEM and her husband Charles Wall. The pair had been involved with the awards through their own luxury mobile toilet business for many years, and believed it was of vital importance that their customers knew that they took quality seriously.

Becky said: “Everyone needs to use the toilet, and everyone has the right for that toilet and its facilities to be clean, hygienic and safe.”

Since taking on the scheme, the couple has continued to grow its reach with more than 1,500 venues taking part annually. Becky herself has been recognised for her work in the FM sector, as well as her role as a female entrepreneur and a champion of her business community in Herefordshire. Indeed, she was named Entrepreneur of the Year at Hereford Means Business in 2025 and won a silver award for Lifetime Achievement at the national Best Business Women Awards 2025.

What sets the Loo of the Year Awards apart is its rigorous, independently conducted and unannounced inspections, ensuring a genuine assessment of everyday standards. It’s not just about trying to win a trophy: it’s about committing to excellence.

Entrants are graded from bronze to diamond (six grading stages) with the highest-performing facilities recognised as being ‘the best of the best’ at an annual day of celebration every January.
