As Nilfisk celebrates its 110th anniversary this year, we caught up with Tina Mayn, Executive Vice President of Global Product Management & Marketing, and Anders Terkildsen, Executive Vice President of EMEA Sales & Service, to hear how plans are already firmly in place for another 100 years.
Reaching a milestone anniversary of 110 years would be considered a major accomplishment for most companies, particularly in this difficult economic climate. But while some may use such a landmark as an excuse to rest on their laurels, look back on where they came from and almost get a little complacent, that is not the case with Nilfisk. Instead, the cleaning giants are looking to the future and putting plans in place for the next 100 years.
This forward planning was clearly on show earlier this year at the big ISSA/Interclean show in Amsterdam, with Nilfisk’s huge exhibition stand split into three major areas – safety, productivity and cleaning – each with their own new developments and products to help take Nilfisk even further forward.
While at the show, we spoke with Tina Mayn, Executive Vice President of Global Product Management & Marketing, and Anders Terkildsen, Executive Vice President of EMEA Sales & Service, to find out more about these new developments, and what the future has in store for Nilfisk.

As we mentioned in these pages in our show review back in June, one of the main areas of attention at this year’s showpiece cleaning exhibition was the move towards digital fleet management systems – with Diversey Care’s TASKI IntelliTrail, and Kärcher’s Connected Cleaning in particular grabbing attention. This new digital focus was shared by Nilfisk too, as it showed off its TrackClean system. Introduced in November of last year, the system, according to Tina, ‘is all about how you would optimise the way that you’d use our products and how you can optimise the way that you clean as a contract cleaner’.
But before fleet management takes over the whole industry, Tina said that any tech-based changes could take some time to fully roll out. She said: “I think fleet management is the way that the industry is moving, but we’re still navigating and figuring out how we’re going to use it in the best way for the contract cleaner and for ourselves so that the data that we get out of it brings a value to what you do as a business.
“You don’t just get fleet management over an entire range of products
overnight, it’s a journey that will take some years before the big contract cleaners are able to have that as a bigger benefit – but there are benefits in it for us and for our customers.”
These benefits, Tina believes, could tie in with the recent emergence of robotics in the cleaning industry, another area that was highlighted during the Amsterdam show. She said: “I think it’s about working out how to optimise and free up the operator. That’s what it’s all about for the contract cleaner. It’s all about the productivity of their operators and how they can use them most efficiently – that’s what robotics is about. You can free up resources to do something else, which is also what fleet management is about. If you can combine the two then it’d become very powerful.”
Alongside the TrackClean fleet management system, last year Nilfisk implemented a new internal strategy – Accelerate – that aims to help the company to expand on a global level ‘both through acquisitions and also organically’.
