Volvo supports North-Eastern community campaign to raise funds for local lad
North Eastern firms AD Plant Hire and Applebridge Construction, with support from Volvo, have helped a local fundraising campaign for a five-year old boy to raise enough funds for life-saving treatment in America. Here’s how the construction industry helped him reach his target. Finley Ingles of Marton in
Middlesbrough was diagnosed with a rare medication-resistant brain tumour this year after battling multiple daily seizures since the age of two. Frequent hospital trips, tests and scans are a way of life for this youngster, but like a lot of little boys, Finley much prefers anything relating to diggers, tools and cars
which is how Applebridge & AD Plant Hire came to know his story. Says Claire Quinn of Applebridge Construction, “When we found out about
Finley’s love for diggers and construction machines, we were keen to help his fundraising campaign for his treatment so, alongside AD Plant Hire, we invited Finley and his family to a ‘play day’ out on our site. We also helped generate some publicity for their campaign in the North East while asking Volvo to participate, and helped the family reach their £200,000 target with a £60,000 donation.” Finley’s day playing on some of Applebridge’s new excavators went down very
well. Claire says, “We branded an excavator up with Finley’s name and a cartoon picture of him dressed as a construction worker on the cab, donated by ItchyRobot and Sign Design GB. We also gave him his own high-viz vest and hard hat courtesy of Xamax Workwear and Volvo donated digger toys, clothes and other goodies.
We also encouraged the local business community to donate to the campaign and they were only too happy to help. “ With the best chance for Finley to lead
a normal life and reduce his seizures being to receive laser ablation surgery which is only performed in America, Finley’s family have had to raise the funds for this treatment themselves. They’ve held numerous fundraisers for Finley including sporting events, music events, fundraising at his primary school, as well as business campaigns around the local area, resulting in further donations being made. Since Finley’s day with Applebridge &
AD Plant, his campaign has received a lot of coverage in the mainstream media, including the BBC Tees, local newspapers and social media. This has resulted in further donations and the target has been reached, but funds for the family’s flights, accommodation and living expenses in the US still need to be paid for, so more support would be welcomed. “We’d like to thank all who are helping
with the campaign,” says Claire, “and we know Volvo & AD Plant will join us in wishing Finley all the best for his treatment.”
