64066pr@reply-direct.com Manual handling of acids with digestion vessels – a health and safety concern?
Operator exposure to acid fumes especially with working with multiple acids is a possible concern for health and safety when adding acids to digestion vessels. In addition, the task takes valuable operator time that limits laboratory productivity and the ability of the chemist to accomplish other tasks.
Any sample preparation for elemental analysis requires the addition of reagents and the handling of these reagents, even if ultrapure, is a key factor in achieving lower detection limits and ensuring reliable quantification limits. Apart from potential contamination from pipette tips and dirty glassware, another consideration is the potential for the presence of the analyst to contaminate the reagents from the use of cosmetics and the presence of watches, rings, bracelets, and other jewellery.
Implementation of an automated dosing system such as the Milestone easyFILL acid dosing station from Analytix can effectively overcome both safety concerns and reagent contamination as it controls direct addition of reagents in most digestion vessels and vials without exposing the operator to the reagents. It provides better acid dispensing capability, and a superior analytical blank value compared to the manual bottle top dispensing method by removing analyst contamination and human error.
The system provides automated dosing of up to six acids (including HF) and reduces operator time to just a few seconds. The dosing compartment and all parts in contact with acids are manufactured from anticorrosive materials and the system is controlled via a Microsoft Surface GO with customised software that has pre-stored rack configurations. For routine processes, it is possible to create a library of customised methods with the type and volume of reagents and the number of vessel positions.

In today’s fast-paced environment, laboratories face numerous challenges, including the need for effi cient data management, regulatory compliance, and cost control. An advanced Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) deployed through a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) model offers a comprehensive solution to these challenges.
An advanced LIMS automates data capture and reporting, reducing manual documentation time. This automation accelerates turnaround times and minimises human errors, ensuring accurate and reliable data. With real-time data access, labs can monitor progress and make informed decisions quickly.
The cloud-based SaaS model provides unparalleled scalability, allowing labs to easily adjust their operations based on demand. This fl exibility helps labs manage costs by reducing the need for on-site hardware and IT support. Centralised data management eliminates data silos, streamlining workfl ows and enhancing collaboration across multiple sites.
Maintaining compliance with regulatory standards is crucial for any laboratory. An advanced LIMS helps to ensure full traceability and adherence to quality standards by automating compliance processes. This builds trust with clients and reduces the risk of non-compliance and associated penalties.
By leveraging a cloud-based SaaS model, labs can achieve signifi cant cost savings. The reduction in infrastructure costs, combined with automated compliance and data management, lowers the total cost of ownership. This model supports high testing volumes and complex processes without compromising effi ciency.
The Clinisys Laboratory Solution™ (CLS) is an advanced, comprehensive LIMS with a cloud- based SaaS deployment model designed to support labs across multiple industries. CLS and its industry content packages provide sector-specifi c features needed to support essential laboratory processes and handle regulatory burdens within multiple major industries, including Environmental, Water, Toxicology, Public Health, Food & Beverage safety testing, and Contract Services testing.
In conclusion, an advanced LIMS deployed through a cloud-based SaaS model, such as the Clinisys Laboratory Solution™, empowers laboratories to enhance effi ciency, scalability, compliance, and cost management, positioning them for sustainable growth in a competitive landscape.
